  • Patent number: 7002100
Abstract: A laser assisted machining method and device comprise a tool mount on which a laser head is disposed. A digital thermometer is disposed in a machining tool or on the tool mount for feeding data to a system controller. A laser is used to enable the blade of the machining tool to heat and soften a workpiece instantaneously. As the machining process is in progress, the chip is rapidly removed. The temperature of the tool tip is monitored by the digital thermometer for automatic control of the temperature of heating the workpiece by the laser, thereby keeping the temperature of the tool tip in a specific allowable range. The efficiency of the machining process and the surface precision are thus enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6817774
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically dynamically adjusting prestressed bearings of shaft are provided. The apparatus comprises a sleeve assembly having outer and inner sleeves sandwiched between the bearings. An inner diameter of outer sleeve is smaller than an outer diameter of inner sleeve. Hence, outer and inner sleeves are fitted together after cooling. Further, inner sleeve is compressed by the outer sleeve to extend axially. During rotation of shaft, the axial extension of inner sleeve is reduced because the radial expansion of outer sleeve is larger than that of inner sleeve due to an thermal expansion coefficient of outer sleeve larger than that of inner sleeve. This can reduce prestress of bearings without degrading a rigidity thereof.

  • Patent number: 5813283
Abstract: A vertical/horizontal spindle head for machine tools having a main transmission shaft with a first bevel gear secured thereon, a lower rotatable housing having a bevel gear axle secured therein, an upper seat having a push/pull apparatus for axially moving the lower rotatable housing relative to the upper seat, a main shaft having a second bevel gear secured thereon, third and fourth bevel gears coaxially arranged on the bevel gear axle, and a curved coupling between the upper seat and the lower rotatable housing. Between the third and fourth bevel gears are springs to move the third bevel gear axially and maintain it in engagement with the first bevel gear. A slidable spline device is provided between the third bevel gear and the bevel gear axle. The slidable spline device is disengaged in a first position where the curved coupling is coupled and is engaged in a second position when the lower rotatable housing is pushed away from the upper seat by the push/pull apparatus and the curved coupling is uncoupled.
