  • Publication number: 20130265424
Abstract: A reconfigurable clear path detection system includes an image capture device and a primary clear path detection module for determining corresponding probability values of identified patches within a captured image representing a likelihood of whether a respective patch is a clear path of the road. A plurality of secondary clear path detection modules each are used to assist in identifying a respective clear path of the traveled road in the input image. One or more of the secondary clear path detection modules are selectively enabled for identifying the clear path. The selectively enabled secondary clear path detection modules are used to identify the clear path of the road of travel in the input image. A fusion module collectively analyzes the clear path detection results of the primary clear path detection module and the selectively enabled secondary clear path detection modules for identifying the clear path in the input image.

  • Publication number: 20130230807
Abstract: A method of fabricating an anti-reflective optically transparent structure includes the steps of providing an optically transparent substrate having a first refractive index and a first surface; and forming an anti-reflective layer within the first surface of the transparent substrate. The anti-reflective layer is made by forming a nano-scale pattern within the first surface defining a subwavelength nano-structured second surface of the anti-reflective layer including a plurality of protuberances having a predetermined maximum distance between adjacent protuberances and a predetermined height for a given wavelength such that the anti-reflective layer includes a second refractive index lower than the first refractive index to minimize light diffraction and random scattering therethrough. The predetermined height is approximately equal to a quarter of the given wavelength divided by the second refractive index.

  • Publication number: 20130202152
Abstract: A method provides for determining visible regions in a captured image during a nighttime lighting condition. An image is captured from an image capture device mounted to a vehicle. An intensity histogram of the captured image is generated. An intensity threshold is applied to the intensity histogram for identifying visible candidate regions of a path of travel. The intensity threshold is determined from a training technique that utilizes a plurality of training-based captured images of various scenes. An objective function is used to determine objective function values for each correlating intensity value of each training-based captured image. The objective function values and associated intensity values for each of the training-based captured images are processed for identifying a minimum objective function value and associated optimum intensity threshold for identifying the visible candidate regions of the captured image.

  • Publication number: 20130128044
Abstract: A method of distinguishing between daytime lighting conditions and nighttime lighting conditions based on a captured image by a vision-based imaging device along a path of travel. An image is captured by a vision-based imaging device. A region of interest is selected in the captured image. A light intensity value is determined for each pixel within the region of interest. A cumulative histogram is generated based on light intensity values within the region of interest. The cumulative histogram including a plurality of category bins representing the light intensity values. Each category bin identifies an aggregate value of light intensity values assigned to each respective category bin. An aggregate value is compared within a predetermined category bin of the histogram to a first predetermined threshold. A determination is made whether the image is captured during the daytime lighting conditions as a function of the aggregate value within the predetermined category bin.

  • Publication number: 20120243372
Abstract: Blind wavelet extraction and de-convolution is performed on seismic data to enable its practical usage in seismic processing and to provide quality control of data obtained in areas where data from wells are not available. The wavelet extraction and deconvolution are realized in the time domain by iteration, producing a mixed phase wavelet with minimal prior knowledge of the actual nature of the wavelet. As a result of the processing, the de-convolved seismic reflectivity is obtained simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20120147176
Abstract: A method and system for vehicular clear path detection using adaptive machine learning techniques including additional classifiers. Digital camera images are segmented into patches, from which characteristic features are extracted representing attributes such as color and texture. The patch features are analyzed by a Support Vector Machine (SVM) or other machine learning classifier, which has been previously trained to recognize clear path image regions. For image regions or patches which result in a low confidence value, an additional classifier can be used, where the additional classifier is adaptively trained using real world test samples which were previously classified with high confidence as clear path roadway. Output from the original, offline trained classifier and the additional, adaptively-updated classifier are then used to make a joint decision about clear path existence in subsequent image patches.
