  • Patent number: 7359470
Abstract: A method minimizes a rate for feeding back channel state information from a receiver to a transmitter in a multi-input, multi-output communications systems. A temporal autocorrelation function of the channel between the transmitter and the receiver is determined. A spatial covariance information is estimated of the channel. Then, the minimum rate for feeding back channel state information from the receiver to the transmitter is based on actual channel state information and the estimated spatial covariance information and the temporal autocorrelation function.

  • Publication number: 20080062043
Abstract: A method determines a position of a target object. A window function is applied repeatedly to a first signal and a second signal of a pair of radio signals received at a pair of passive sensors from a target object while time shifting the window function during a correlation interval to produce a first windowed signal and a second windowed signal for each application. The first windowed signals are cross-correlating with the second windowed signals to determine a peak for each cross-correlation. The peaks are compared sequentially in time with a predetermined threshold to detect a first pulse in the first signal and a first pulse in the second signal. A delay between the first pulses indicative of a position of the target object.

  • Publication number: 20080051149
Abstract: A method and system selects a subset of antennas from a set of antennas to transmit user data in a wireless communication system. The user data is transmitted during a first transmission time intervals (TTI) using a first subset of antennas. Pilot tones are transmitted during a second TTI using a second subset of antennas. Corresponding channel qualities are estimated for the first subset of antennas and the second subset of antennas from the user data and the pilot tones. Then, based on the estimating, a best subset of antenna is selected from the first subset of antennas and the second subset of antennas to transmit the user data during a subsequent TTI.

  • Patent number: 7330433
Abstract: A method allocates resources of a wireless communications network to traffic transmitted to user equipment over a channel of the network. A packet of the traffic to be stored in a selected queue is received. A maximum delay of the selected queue is determined, along with a start time, a finish time, and a queuing order. The packet is inserted in the selected queue according to the start time, the finish time and the queuing order, and then a weight of the selected queue is updated. Then, a next packet to be dequeued from the selected queue is scheduled, and the next packet is transmitted to the user equipment over the channel.

  • Publication number: 20080031250
Abstract: A method for transmitting packets from a source node to a destination node via relay nodes of a wireless network. Packets are transmitted from the source node, along a route of relays nodes, to the destination node in a wireless network. Energy of the packets is accumulated only in the destination node by storing multiple versions of the packet. The packets are decoded in the destination node using the accumulated energy.

  • Patent number: 7328026
Abstract: A method signals data in a channel of a network including multiple stations and an access point connected by a wireless channel. A station first requests access to the channel using a sequential coordinated channel access method of an access point. After the station receives permission to access the channel during a contention free period at a time corresponding to a sequence index value received by the station from the access point, the station transmits a resource request message to the access point to obtain a bandwidth allocation. In response, the station receives the bandwidth allocation, and the station can then transmit data during the contention free period according to the bandwidth allocation.

  • Patent number: 7298792
Abstract: A method and system eliminate spectral lines and shapes the power spectral density of an ultra bandwidth signal. First, a train of non-periodic pulses is generated. The non-periodic pulses are then modulated in time according to uncorrelated symbols. A polarity of the non-periodic pulses is inverted randomly before transmitting the non-periodic pulses as an ultra wide bandwidth signal to eliminate spectral lines and to shape a power spectral density of the ultra wide bandwidth signal.

  • Patent number: 7280942
Abstract: A method analyzes a set of signal acquired from a physical system. A set of parameters characterizing the set of signals is measured. The parameters can include the mean and the variance of the power of the signal, and a Rician factor. A first point and a second point of a moment generating function for a combination of the set of signals are evaluated according to the set of parameters to obtain a first sample and a second sample, respectively. First and second equations are defined. The equations respectively have an approximation of a moment generation function of a lognormal random variable representing the combination of the set of signals, at the first point and the second point, on the left side, and the first and second sample on the right side. The two equations are solved to obtain a mean and a variance of the lognormal random variable representing a distribution of the combination of the set of the signals.

  • Publication number: 20070224943
Abstract: A method for selecting antennas in a multiple-input, multiple-output wireless communications network that includes multiple stations is presented. Each station includes a set of transmit RF chains and a set of receive RF chains, and each RF chain is connectable to a set of antennas. A first station transmits a training frame for each possible subset of the set of antennas, and the set of transmit RF chains are connected to the subset of antennas according to a connection mapping rule while transmitting each training frame. A subchannel matrix is estimated in a second station for each frame. The subchannel matrices are combined to obtain a complete channel matrix. A particular subset of the antennas is selected according to the complete channel matrix. The set of transmit RF chains is connected to the selected particular subset of antennas to transmit data from the first station to the second station.

  • Publication number: 20070217524
Abstract: A frame timing synchronization technique for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is presented. First, a coarse synchronization technique generates a coarse frame timing estimate. The coarse synchronization technique applies a sliding window differentiator to the output of a conventional auto-correlator to mitigate the plateau effect associated with conventional auto-correlation techniques. Second, a fine synchronization technique generates a fine frame timing estimate. The fine synchronization technique uses the coarse frame timing estimate to reduce the number of cross-correlation calculations. Additionally, the fine synchronization technique acquires a fine frame timing estimate based on a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) metric, which is more robust to multi-paths and pseudo multi-paths caused by cyclic delay diversity (CDD) schemes than conventional cross-correlation synchronization techniques.

  • Publication number: 20070217432
Abstract: A system and method for communicating information in a wireless cooperative relay network of nodes, the nodes including a source, a set of relays, and a destination. The source broadcasts a code word encoded as a data stream using a rateless code. • Publication number: 20070165581
Abstract: A method and system for communicating information in a cooperative relay network of wireless nodes. The wireless nodes including a source, a set of relays, and a destination. Channel state information for each channel between a particular relay of the set of relays and the destination is estimated. A subset of the relays is selected based on the channel state information. The channel state information is fed back to the subset of relays. The source node can then broadcasting data packets from the source to the subset of relays, and the subset of relays forward coherently the data packets from the subset of relays to the destination using beamforming based on the channel state information, while adjusting power to minimize a total energy consumption in the network.

  • Publication number: 20070127410
Abstract: A method manages dynamically bandwidth for transport streams in a wireless network. An available bandwidth is defined for the network. An instantaneous bandwidth required by transport streams transmitted according to a hybrid coordination function controlled channel access (HCCA) category and an enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) category is determined. The available bandwidth is compared to the instantaneous bandwidth, and the bandwidth of low priority transport streams is adjusted dynamically if the instantaneous bandwidth is different than the available bandwidth.
