Abstract: There is provided an apparatus and method to alert an operator of an emergency power system of an anomaly detected in an emergency power system prior to a severe environmental event based on receipt of an alert. The emergency power system environmental alert module is installed in the emergency power system and is coupled to an emergency power source and a main power source. When a public alerting service issues an alert of an impending environmental occurrence, such as an earthquake, hurricane, tornado, the environmental alert module of the emergency power system automatically performs tests and provides data reports to the operator or user of the emergency power system.
