    Abstract: A method and system for producing a single view video signal based on a multiview video coding (MVC) signal stream. A MVC signal stream representing multiple spatially related views of a scene, including a base view and at least one dependent view, is decoded to provide multiple decoded video signals representing the spatially related views, with respective portions of the MVC signal stream representing one of multiple temporally adjacent video frames, and the MVC signal stream representing multiple sequences of spatially adjacent video frames. The decoded video signals are processed to provide a processed video signal representing one of the spatially related views using image information from more than one of the decoded video signals. As a result, more image data is used during processing, thereby improving the spatial and temporal image quality.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus provides for changing a perspective of a video such as a display perspective of an object displayed in the video. In one example, the method and apparatus changes the display perspective of an object displayed in the video based on information indicating an orientation and/or position of the recording device that captures the object on the video. To do so, the method and apparatus may determine a current display perspective for an object displayed in the video based on information indicating an orientation and/or position of the recording device. By comparing the current display perspective to a desired display perspective for the object, the method and apparatus determines an amount of display perspective adjustment for the object and selects appropriate perspective adjustment methods to carry out the adjustment. Accordingly, the display perspective adjustment is made to the video automatically for the object displayed in the video without user intervention.

    Abstract: A method, system, and software for improved display of multiple media channels are disclosed herein. A system may be used to select, independent of direct user input, a subset of a plurality of media channels based on a user's viewing pattern. The system can include one or more media sources, a media processing system, and a display device, as well as a method for its use. The media processing system receives a plurality of media channels from the one or more media sources. One or more attributes associated with each media channel are compared with a user's viewing pattern determined independent of direct user input by the media processing system. A surf list is generated from the plurality of media channels, where the surf list includes a subset of the plurality of media channels having one or more attributes that are congruent with the user's viewing pattern. A portion, such as a still image, of each media channel in the surf list is output to an output device, such as a display device or storage device.

According to the determined amount of display perspective adjustment, the method and apparatus issues one or more control commands that instruct the multimedia presenting system to change the display perspective. The display perspective may be changed for example by moving a display or portion thereof and/or by changing the perspective of the displayed image on the display while leaving the position of the display alone.

    Abstract: A system and method for providing user control of the projection of two-dimensional (2D) image information within the three-dimensional (3D) display space of a 3D-capable display device. Advantageously, the system and method disclosed herein allow a user to view 3D video even when the source video includes 2D content, by allowing the user to adjust the z-axis position of the 2D content, thereby causing the 2D content to be projected at a user-specified image depth within 3D space. The user can adjust the z-axis position of the 2D content in real time while contemporaneously viewing the imagery, e.g., via a remote control, and such adjustment can be stored for later use when similar or other 2D content is being viewed.

A priority is assigned to individual windows of a plurality of windows used for playback of the video streams. A current window being accessed by a user is assigned a higher priority than nonactive, or background, windows. Playback characteristics, such as video resolution, transparency, and audio volume, are reduced in the playback of videos presented in nonactive windows in relation to video played in the active window. Accordingly, a user's attention may be drawn more to the active window than to the nonactive windows, while allowing the video and audio data in the nonactive windows to be provided to the user.

The program sequence playback information includes a sequence of time stamp information associated with the selected program identifier information. According to one embodiment, the program sequence playback information directs memory to play back the selected program corresponding to the selected program identifier information by, for example, skipping over any intermediate channel changes. For example, the program sequence playback information may represent a read pointer in memory during playback.

The video content is provided in a letterboxed format with black bars to make up the standard aspect ratio. The video is analyzed to identify portions of the video related to changing video content. A boundary for the changing video content is identified as the alternate aspect ratio. The alternate aspect ratio is then applied to the video to present the video at the alternate aspect ratio. Extraneous portions of the video, such as the black bars, are then discarded from the video to present the video at the alternate aspect ratio.

    Abstract: A video information recorder receives video information including multiple scenes, and associates an automatic start marker with at least one of the scenes in response to receiving user-provided begin scene information. According to one embodiment, during playback the video information recorder stops recording in response to receiving the user provided begin scene information and resumes recording in response to receiving the user provided end scene information. According to an alternative embodiment, during playback the video information recorder skips, erases or overwrites the video information between the start and stop markers. The video information recorder also associates an automatic stop marker with at least one of the scenes without user intervention in response to receiving user-provided end scene information.
