  • Publication number: 20080186990
Abstract: To provide for VM migration in an InfiniBand network, a translation module intercepts and InfiniBand packet and performs appropriate translation of the packet's virtual HCA address to a physical HCA address. The translation is based on the mapping table that is updated when a VM is created, destroyed, or migrated from one physical node to another in the InfiniBand network.

  • Publication number: 20080189432
Abstract: A virtual machine (VM) is migrated from a physical source node to a physical destination node in an InfiniBand network. A virtual host channel adapter (VHCA) is allocated on the source node for the VM to be migrated. The VHCA is suspended and put into the inactive state. The state information of the VM, including VHCA state information, is saved in a location-transparent manner. The state information is transferred from the source node to the destination node. A new VM is created, and a VHCA is allocated for the new VM on the destination node. The state information is transferred from the source node, including the VHCA state information. The routing and switching information is updated, operation of the VM is resumed, and the VHCA is put into an active state.

  • Publication number: 20070041383
Abstract: The present invention introduces a third party node initiated remote direct memory access scheme for transferring data from a source node to destination node. The third party node is a different node than the source node and the destination node and the data transfer is configured to occur without involvement of a source node processor and a destination node processor. One embodiment of the invention includes an initiator node and a transfer instruction. The initiator node is configured to initiate a data transfer between the source node and the destination node. The transfer instruction configured to be transmitted to either the source node or the destination node by the initiator node, and to effectuate the data transfer without involvement of a source node processor and a destination node processor.
