Patent number: 8243707Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of forming a random beam, and a beam forming apparatus. A quantization preprocessor and a random unitary matrix having a predetermined pattern are used to form a beam on a mobile terminal. A base station forms a beam using a codeword index of a quantization codebook received from a mobile terminal and channel quality information corresponding to the codeword index, and the mobile terminal generates the codeword index and the channel quality information using pilot signals generated by the base station. The number of pilot signals is equal to the number of transmitting antennas. Therefore, a codebook that has been known to both the mobile terminal and the base station is used, and the mobile terminal can select the codeword index for quantization, which makes it possible to selectively give diversity and thus improve the system efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2007Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignees: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Electronics and Telecommunications Research InstituteInventors: In-Kyeong Choi, Dong-Seung Kwon, Choong-Il Yeh, Ji-Won Kang, Chung-Yong Lee

Patent number: 8199848Abstract: The present invention relates to a precoder and a precoding method in a multi-user multi-antenna communication System. When a transmission part (100) having a plurality of antennas transmits a plurality of signals to a receiving part (200) having an antenna, the precoder and the precoding method using the same prevents System performance degradation caused by interference signals and efficiently reduces transmission power while changing the constellation rotary angle. When the power is controlled by using the precoder, the System performance is enhanced while not damaging the structural gain of the existing multi-user multi-antenna precoder.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2007Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Assignees: Electoronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Samsung Electornics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Dong-Seung Kwon, In-Kyeong Choi, Hyong-Woo Ku, Ji-Won Kang, Chung-Yong Lee

Patent number: 7630380Abstract: Provided is a scheduling apparatus and method for allocating resources to individual users in a multiantenna system. The method includes determining a ratio of time slots to be allocated according to a ratio desired by each of the terminals in every specific time slot interval, calculating a channel capacity average and a standard deviation for each terminal according to channel capacity reported from each terminal for a specific time, and determining, based on the determined ratio of time slots, a terminal to which a specific time slot is to be allocated according to the channel capacity average and the standard deviation, calculated for each terminal, and the last reported channel capacity.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2006Date of Patent: December 8, 2009Assignees: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, Yonsei UniversityInventors: Jae-Hak Chung, Ji-Won Kang, Ye-Hoon Lee, Seung-Hoon Nam, Chung-Yong Lee, Hak-Ju Lee

Publication number: 20060268814Abstract: Provided is a scheduling apparatus and method for allocating resources to individual users in a multiantenna system. An upper layer determines resources to allocate to respective users one a long term, and provides the ratio to a scheduler. Then the scheduler determines coefficients appropriate for the provided ratio. On the assumption that a statistical channel characteristic for a user is constant for a predetermined time, the scheduler determines a channel capacity average and a standard deviation for the user. The scheduler schedules resource allocation for individual users according to the channel capacity average and standard deviation values, which are the statistical characteristic values, and instantaneous channel capacity fed back for the individual users, together with the found coefficients.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Applicants: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD., Yonsei UniversityInventors: Jae-Hak Chung, Ji-Won Kang, Ye-Hoon Lee, Seung-Hoon Nam, Chung-Yong Lee, Hak-Ju Lee
