  • Patent number: 9674730
Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and techniques relating to wireless communications. According to an aspect of the described systems and techniques, an apparatus includes circuitry configured to receive a signal representing a wireless communication transmission; and circuitry configured to process the signal to (i) decode a control portion of the wireless communication transmission, (ii) determine from the decoded control portion that a data portion of the wireless communication transmission was successfully decoded previously and acknowledged, and so the wireless communication transmission is an unnecessary retransmission, and (iii) trigger acknowledgement of the wireless communication transmission being successfully decoded, without completing a decode of the data portion of the wireless communication transmission, when the unnecessary retransmission is detected.

  • Patent number: 9148825
Abstract: A method includes performing a handover for a mobile device between first and second RAT networks. The first RAT network has a tracking area. The second RAT network has a routing area. Idle mode signaling reduction is activated in the mobile device including activating first and second timers respectively for the first and second RAT networks. In response to either one of the first and second timers expiring, a tracking or routing area update is sent to a first base station. The first base station is in the first RAT network or the second RAT network. The first timer is reset while the second timer maintains a set offset from the first timer. The tracking area update indicates that the mobile device has performed a handover to the first RAT network. The routing area update indicates that the mobile device has handed over to the second RAT network.

  • Patent number: 9137814
Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatus, and techniques are provided for retransmitting packets of data. A Radio Link Control (RLC) layer data packet is generated, and the RLC layer data packet is converted to one or more physical (PHY) layer data packets. The one or more PHY layer data packets are transmitted. At least one of a hybrid automatic transmission request (HARQ) acknowledgement (ACK) message and a HARQ negative acknowledgment (NACK) message is received from a receiver in response to transmission of the one or more PHY layer data packets. It is determined whether the at least one of the HARQ ACK message and the HARQ NACK message represents a automatic transmission request (ARQ) ACK message or a ARQ NACK message.

  • Patent number: 9026158
Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with scheduling of measurement gaps and on-duration intervals for a wireless station are described. According to one embodiment, a controller for controlling a station that wirelessly communicates with a base station is disclosed. The station is within a wireless range of the base station and one or more neighboring stations. The controller includes a scheduling logic configured to control the station, while the station is in an idle mode, to receive control information from the base station by scheduling a period of time for an on-duration interval. The scheduling logic is configured to control the station to listen to the one or more neighboring stations by scheduling a period of time for a measurement gap. The measurement gap is scheduled to avoid overlapping with the on-duration interval.

  • Patent number: 9008659
Abstract: In a method of assigning cell reselection parameters to be utilized by user devices served by a first cell associated with a first tracking area, that a first signal frequency is associated with a second tracking area different than the first tracking area is determined. Based on a determination that the first signal frequency is associated with the second tracking area different than the first tracking area, a first set of one or more reselection parameters is assigned to the first signal frequency.

  • Patent number: 8588186
Abstract: Methods for a wireless transceiver, the methods having corresponding apparatus and computer programs, comprise: transmitting a ranging sequence modulated according to a first modulation mode at a power level selected according to a normalized carrier-to-noise value associated with the first modulation mode as set forth in a table associating normalized carrier-to-noise values with modulation modes; transmitting a first ranging request message according to a second modulation mode at a power level selected according to a normalized carrier-to-noise value associated with the second modulation mode, the first ranging request message being transmitted after having received a ranging response message for the ranging sequence; and increasing each normalized carrier-to-noise value in the table, except the normalized carrier-to-noise value associated with the first modulation mode, by a predetermined amount in response to the transceiver not receiving a response to the first ranging request message within a predeterm

  • Patent number: 7961641
Abstract: A device and method for connecting to a WiMAX network can determine an initial signal strength as a function of an uplink propagation path loss between a mobile device and a base station, a noise and interference level value for the base station, a normalized carrier-to-noise value for ranging, and an offset value. If a connection is not established at the initial signal strength, a signal can be retransmitted at a signal strength equal to the initial signal strength plus a step value, where the step value can be determined by designating a fixed number of steps to be used before reaching maximum transmission power.
