Patent number: 10513388Abstract: A confectionery packaging is provided comprising a first part formed from a preformed shell that is substantially rigid so that the part maintains it shape. The first part holds the product to be packaged, which in the Figures is shown as a confectionery egg. Main surfaces of the first part are shaped so as to substantially conform to the shape of the confectionery egg. Consequently an open mouth to the part is provided. The egg is accessible through the open mouth. A flange is formed about the perimeter of the open mouth. The flange extends away from the main surfaces and continuously about the perimeter of the mouth and extends a substantial distance therefrom in order to provide a surface against which a second part. The confectionery packaging forms a sealed enclosure about the egg by sealing a second part to the flange. To open the packaging, the film is separated from the first part, for instance by peeling back the film.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2014Date of Patent: December 24, 2019Assignee: MONDELEZ UK R&D LIMITEDInventors: Amy Wetton, Vincenzo Disavino, Jo-Ann Clark, Adam Lloyd

Publication number: 20160152406Abstract: A packaged food item has a package holding the food item, with a preformed part having a receptacle with a peripheral edge, and second part sealed to the edge, forming an enclosure holding the food item. The receptacle is a sheet having an inner face conforming to a shaped portion of a surface of the food item, and may have an outer face following the shape of the inner face. The food item is retained within the enclosure with the shaped portion of the surface of the food item and the inner face of the receptacle mutually in proximity. The food item is securely retained with the outer face of the receptacle providing, to a viewer of the package, a clear display of the shape of the food item, permitting any display, graphics or text, on the surface of the item to be visible on the outer face of the package, without the need to apply pressure or heat to conform the package to the shaped portion of the packaged food item.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2014Publication date: June 2, 2016Inventors: Adam Lloyd, Filipa Guerra, Jo-Ann Clark, Richard Andrews, Ron Exner, Vincent Disavino
