  • Patent number: 11190269
Abstract: A method for assigning spectral resources comprises assigning spectral resources for a plurality of communication channels. The spectral resources for the plurality of communication channels comprise excess resources that are at least tentatively kept unoccupied. The excess resources of a plurality of communication channels are assigned to be spectrally contiguous.

    Assignee: XIEON NETWORKS S.a.r.l.
Inventors: António Eira, João Manuel Ferreira Pedro
  • Patent number: 11139893
Abstract: A set of media channel (MCh) widths is determined for an optical network. Based on a topology of the network, a first set of original MCh widths are computed for tentative use in the optical network, the first set of original MCh widths defining a target spectral efficiency. A reduced set of new MCh widths are generated from the first set of MCh widths by respectively mapping each of the original MCh widths of the first set of original MCh widths to a corresponding, or respective, new MCh width. An optimization algorithm is used in an example embodiment to facilitate the mapping.

  • Patent number: 10511402
Abstract: The proposed invention is in the area of managing resources in optical transport networks, for example in the area of in-operation media channel format and spectrum management. For this purpose, the type of Media Channel Format is determined for each of a plurality of candidate paths, wherein each candidate path connects a pair of nodes in an optical transport network. Then, the expected weight describing traffic volume of each of the candidate paths is determined, and a spectrum share is assigned to each link of each of the candidate paths based on the determined Media Channel Formats and determined weights. In this way, spectrum shares assigned to different links and candidate paths can be used for efficiently assigning a band spectrum to each of the Media Channel Formats of the candidate paths.

  • Publication number: 20190109644
Abstract: A set of media channel (MCh) widths are determined to be used in an optical network. Based on the topology of the network, a first set of MCh widths are computed for tentative use in said optical network, said first set of MCh width defining a target spectral efficiency. A reduced set of MCh widths are generated from said first set of MCh widths by mapping each of the original MCh widths of said first set to a corresponding new MCh width, which is identical with or larger than the original MCh width. An optimization algorithm is used that penalizes MCh widths that are more likely to cause fragmentation problems in the spectrum, and penalizes a decrease in spectral width due to the mapping of an original MCh width of said first set to a new, larger width.
