Abstract: A method and an apparatus monitor the integrity of a wire rope in a wire rope assembly, as well as a wire rope assembly containing such an apparatus. In this case, the wire rope is moved past a sensor device, and a sensor signal is generated with the aid of the sensor device. The sensor signal characterizes a magnetic interaction between the sensor device and the wire rope moving past the sensor device. A measure for the integrity of the wire rope is determined on the basis of the generated sensor signal. Accordingly, the movement of the wire rope is generated here in a normal operation of the wire rope assembly.
