  • Patent number: 8202624
Abstract: A process for producing a coated paper, comprising the steps of: a) providing a base paper, the fraction of long-fiber chemical pulp in the base paper being at least 25% by weight, the base paper leaving an absolute moisture content of ISO 287 of not less than 2.5%, the base paper having a water absorbency to ISO 535 for a test time of 10 s (Cobb10) of 5 to 20g/m2, and the base paper having a (Fenchel) wet elongation, measured parallel to the machine direction, of not greater than 0% and, measured transverse to the machine direction, of not greater than 3%, b) applying 10 to 40g/m2 (ovendry) of an aqueous coating composition to at least one face of the base paper, to give a coated base paper, and c) conditioning the coated paper obtained in step b).
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 19, 2012
    Assignee: M-Real Oyj

  • Publication number: 20090061073
Abstract: The present invention refers to a cast coating device for manufacturing cast coated paper and/or paperboard, comprising a cast coating cylinder for treating a coated base paper, the cast coating cylinder comprising a supporting material and at least one coating applied to the supporting material, characterized in that according to DIN 50133 the coating has a hardness value of 1000 HV or more, as well as to a process of manufacturing a cast coated paper.

  • Patent number: 6132855
Abstract: A cast-coated paper has, on at least one coated surface of a base paper, a coat containing pigment(s) and binder and having low gloss. The coat has a topographical surface profile in which the average peak-to-valley height R.sub.a is from 0.1 .mu.m to 0.5 .mu.m and the maximum peak-to-valley height R.sub.t is from 1.0 .mu.m to 4.5 .mu.m, and the wave height W.sub.t is less than 5.0 .mu.m. In a process for the production of a cast-coated paper having low gloss, an aqueous coating composition which contains pigment(s) and binder is applied to at least one surface of a base paper, the coated surface is brought into contact with the surface of a heated cylinder, the coat is dried in contact with the cylinder surface and the dried paper is removed from the cylinder surface. The cylinder surface has the topographical surface profile in which the average peak-to-valley height R.sub.a is from 0.1 .mu.m to 0.6 .mu.m and the maximum peak-to-valley height R.sub.t is from 1.0 .mu.m to 5.0 .mu.m. The surface gloss R'(75.
