  • Publication number: 20080165695
Abstract: In one aspect, a method for estimating the bandwidth requirements for a transmission between an input node and an output node of a network with access controls is provided. According to the method, with respect to a time period, the sum of the value of the average bandwidth of the traffic that has been transmitted between the nodes during the time period and the weighted value of the accumulated bandwidth of the declined reservation requests is calculated. An efficient, approximate determination of the traffic matrix of the network and thus an optimal new definition of the limits for the access controls is permitted. This provides particular advantages in terms of efficiency and resources for applications in networks with a dynamic adaptation of the access controls to modified traffic situations.

  • Publication number: 20080101255
Abstract: In one aspect method and device for tracking network parameters of a communications network, which is formed by links, with access controls for the purpose of limiting the traffic load are provided. The traffic matrix of the network is regularly determined and probabilities of the blocking of traffic are determined based on the traffic matrix. If the blocking probabilities exceed a criterion, typically a maximum blocking probability, the access controls are oppositely controlled in an automatic manner by resetting the limits for the access controls. This resetting can precede a resetting of link weights for optimizing the distribution of traffic in the network. Automatic continuous adaptation of network parameters for optimizing the probability of authorization is enabled for the traffic flows to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20080095041
Abstract: In one aspect, a method for restoration of states maintained in a signalization component of a communication network, after a failure or disruption is provided. An additional signalization component of the communication network is distributed to at least one state in order to protect the states and is stored in said component in the form of a copy. After a failure or disruption of the signalization component, the state stored in the additional signalization components is called up by the signalization component for restoration.

  • Publication number: 20080019375
Abstract: In one aspect, the probability of non-admittance of traffic is determined and weighed according to the admittance threshold value. Also, the probability of non-compliance of at least one service quality characteristic is determined and weighed during the transfer of traffic according to the admittance threshold value. The optimum admittance threshold value for traffic is determined according to the weighted probabilities.

  • Publication number: 20070263540
Abstract: There is described a method and a configuration system for the automatic readjustment of limits for access controls used to restrict the traffic in a communication network formed by links, said communication network comprising control bodies for performing the access controls. The readjustment of limits for access controls is triggered by an event. A traffic matrix of the network is recorded in the configuration system of the communication network, and a recalculation of link weights is carried out by the configuration system by means of a traffic matrix. New limits are determined limits are respectively transmitted to associated control bodies for performing the access restriction and are activated for access controls. The method enables the limits for the access controls to be automatically monitored.

  • Publication number: 20060274653
Abstract: An overbooking according to the ratios of the measuring values of transferred aggregated traffic is determined according to the face values of aggregated transferred traffic. The ratios of measuring values in relation to face values are weighted according to the variable of either the measuring value or the face value such that with smaller measuring values and/or face values the ratios thereof have a slightly lower effect on the determination of overbooking than the ratios of greater measuring values and face values in relation to each other. Systematic access for the improved use of wave bands is provided. Representative situations, wherein a high charge of the wave band is predominant, are taken into account to a greater extent during the determination of the overbooking factor than by phases characterized by a small load.

  • Publication number: 20060187817
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for providing resources for adapting the routing process in response to the failure of a network element in a packet-oriented network. Barring checks that use thresholds are provided to control the volume of traffic in the network. Data packets are barred if their routing would otherwise mean the crossing of a threshold. According to the invention, the thresholds are defined by taking into account failure topologies or possible malfunction scenarios, to ensure that a corresponding malfunction does not lead to an overload in the network. Said definition of the thresholds allows resources to be provided or reserved to all intents and purposes for intercepting malfunctions. The advantage of the invention is that quality criteria can be upheld and quality of service features guaranteed, even during the malfunctions.

  • Publication number: 20060176819
Abstract: A method for operating a network node of a communication network is provided, the network node having a routing method. Before any configuration of the network node by a control device, a minimum waiting time of the network node for the calculation of routing paths is increased after a configuration change. Configuration data is then read into the network node, whereafter said minimum waiting time is reset to a lower value.

  • Publication number: 20060168317
Abstract: The invention relates to the routing of data packets comprising a target address in a packet switching data network. According to the invention, a first and second transmission path are assigned respective traffic distribution weightings in a routing table for individual target addresses that is assigned to a network node, said weightings indicating the respective allocated traffic load per transmission path. The maximum traffic distribution weighting is assigned to the respective first transmission path and the minimum traffic distribution weighting is assigned to the second transmission path. During undisturbed operation, data packets are routed via the first transmission path and if said path is interrupted, the packets are routed via the second transmission path.

  • Publication number: 20060155872
Abstract: The invention relates to the routing of data packets in a packet-switched network, e.g. in an autonomous system, having traffic distribution. According to the invention, the forwarding or the routing of data packets occurs via the access interface based on an item of information and via the output interface of the data packet based on an item of information. Both these items of information are, for example at the input interface, placed in front of the data packet in the form of information fields or labels. The invention enables, with a moderate expense and limited degree of complexity, a flexible and loop-free routing under the terms of a traffic distribution.

  • Publication number: 20060045014
Abstract: In order improve maintenance of packet sequences in a connectionless network comprising several routers enabling the packets of a flow to be transmitted via several pathways, a packet arriving in a router is transmitted on a route in the same way as a packet which is already located in the router and belongs to the same flow or an incoming packet in the router, which arrives in the router within a time window and which is opened by a packet belonging to the same flow, is transmitted on the same route as the packet opening said window.

  • Publication number: 20060045004
Abstract: According to said method, routing information or a list of routing information is inserted or modified in the packet header of data packets, in response to a malfunction of the packet network, in order to avoid defective nodes or links. The data packets with modified headers are routed using the inserted routing information to avoid the network node that is not available. The routing information inserted in the packet header can be determined via the packet network with the aid of topological information. The invention allows a rapid response to malfunctions. Packet losses and delays in data transmission can thus be avoided immediately after the determination of the malfunction by routers adjoining the malfunction area, whereas in conventional packet networks, a problem-free data transmission can only be restored after the convergence of the modified topological information in the packet network.
