  • Patent number: 5141173
Abstract: A hybrid electric vehicle (10) capable of ground travel and air travel is described. The vehicle provides for movement over the ground by wheel motors (20) mounted at each of four ground engaging wheels (14 and 16). The wheel motors are supplied with electric power by a battery pack (24) or an electric generator (32) powered by a combustion engine (22). The combustion engine is also geared to vertically oriented ducted fans (40) and a horizontally oriented ducted fan or propeller (76) for providing the vehicle with the capability of travel through the air. Pressure jets (62), supplied with compressed air from a compressor (66) driven by the combustion engine, augment the lift of the ducted fans and provide steering for the vehicle. The vehicle can also be provided with photo-electric cells (82) for supplying a portion of the electric power for the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4941406
Abstract: A vehicle (10) mounted on a T-shaped rail (100) and having wings (11) providing lift is described. The vehicle uses magnets (18) on the vehicle and materials (101) attracted by the magnet on the rail to provide magnetic levitation. Propulsion is provided by a motor (15). The vehicle is adapted for high speed travel slightly above the ground.

  • Patent number: 4504196
Abstract: A fluid driven turbine having a stator member and a turbine member rotatable on an axis and supporting turbine blades and with a fluid compression section is described. The fluid compression section is provided along the axis of rotation of and inside the turbine member by providing: (1) a tubular extension (13 or 102) of the stator member and (2) a rotor means (30 or 104) and at least one rotor blade means (50, 51, 52) moveable perpendicular to the axis on the turbine member which fits inside the tubular member to provide at least two adjacent first and second chambers which are defined by an inside wall of the tubular extension and the rotor means and blade means. The tubular member has a line of minimum eccentricity (12) parallel to the axis with inlet and outlet openings (15, 16) on either side of the line of minimum eccentricity to and from the chambers so that fluid is drawn into the chamber and compressed and then exits from the chambers.

  • Patent number: 4240394
Abstract: A rotary engine with rotary tubular valves for gas inlet and for gas outlet is described. The engine is of the type wherein at least one rotor is eccentrically rotated on a shaft in a housing with variable volume compartments between the rotor and housing. The rotary tubular valves are spaced around and through the housing with the tube axes parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft which mounts the rotor and are parallel to each other. The valve tubes are slotted as is the housing leading into the compartments such that in the proper sequence a power providing gas is introduced through the inlet valves into a compartment to provide a movement of the rotor, and then is exhausted through the outlet valves by the rotor. Preferably there are at least two spaced apart cylindrically shaped rotors eccentrically mounted on a single shaft in separate closed housings and the compartments provided by sliding abutments around each rotor and housing.

  • Patent number: 4239027
Abstract: A dual rotor type rotary engine with primary and secondary rotor compartments around each rotor is described. The engine operates by activating in sequence an ignition means in the presence of a fuel and air mixture in primary and secondary compartments around one rotor and in primary and secondary rotor compartments around the other rotor. The engine is provided with a central housing between the rotors having a confined space for receiving hot exhaust gases from primary rotor compartments, for mixing with air introduced into the confined space and for conveying the mixture to secondary rotor compartments. The fuel, air and hot exhaust gas mixture in the secondary rotor compartments operates on a reduced amount of fuel by comparison to the fuel and air mixture in the primary compartments. The central housing preferably has air inlets on either side of the confined space to heat inlet air supplied to the primary rotor compartments by heat transfer from the hot surfaces and exhaust gases.
