  • Publication number: 20090199800
Abstract: A valve lever assembly having a switchable valve actuating mechanism comprises a first follower surface for following a first cam, at least one second follower surface for following a second cam and a valve lever, which is supported on an engine-affixed component and on the to-be-actuated valve, wherein the second follower surface is rotatable relative to the first follower surface by a lockable eccentric device borne on the valve lever and the eccentric device comprises an eccentric opening, which penetrates transversely through the valve lever and is fixed relative to the valve lever to as to rotate therewith, and an eccentric shaft rotatably borne in the eccentric opening, the eccentric shaft defining the position of the second follower surface.

  • Patent number: 6814039
Abstract: Valve actuating devices may include a pivot lever (8) having an abutment element (21) displaced from a bearing pin (6). The pivot lever is pivotable by a reciprocating push rod (54). An intermediate lever (26) is pivotably disposed on the pivot lever. A valve lever (40) is pivotably disposed in the intermediate lever and has an abutment surface (44) for contacting the abutment element. A locking device (14, 16) is capable of fixedly coupling the intermediate lever to one of the pivot lever or the valve lever. When the intermediate lever is fixedly coupled to the pivot lever or the valve lever, the valve is actuated according to a first valve stroke function. When the intermediate lever is pivotable relative to the pivot lever and the valve lever, the valve is actuated according to a second valve stroke function.

  • Patent number: 5592906
Abstract: A method and a device for the variable control of a valve of an internal combustion engine, in particular for a throttlefree load control of an Otto carburetor engine via a lift function of one or several intake valves per cylinder are presented. Thereby the cams of two camshafts which normally rotate at the same speed are followed by a feeler-device in the manner of an adder and the movement of the feeler-device is transferred to an actuating device for actuating the valve. The cams of one of the camshafts which operates as the opening camshaft is provided with a flat section and a lobe which pass into each other via an opening portion. The cam of the other one of the camshafts which operates as the closing camshaft is provided with a lobe and a flat section which pass into each other via a closing portion. For altering the lift and/or opening duration of the valve the phase relationship between the camshafts is changeable.

  • Patent number: 5431132
Abstract: Two camshafts 1 and 2 have cams which act through levers 3 and 5 and followers 7 and 8 on one or more valves 4 spring-loaded in the closing direction. One of the two camshafts determines the opening function and the other camshaft the closing function of the valve, so that through a phase shift of the camshafts with respect to one another, the stroke and the timing of the valve or valves can be varied in a wide range. The first camshaft (1) acts upon a drag lever (5) and the second camshaft (2) acts on a rocker lever (3) whose fulcrum is fixed to the drag lever. The axis of rotation of one of the camshafts is at least approximately in the extension of the longitudinal axis of the valve, and the frame-fixed fulcrum (P1) of the drag lever 5 and the fulcrum (P2) for the rocker lever (3) are disposed on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the valve. This makes it possible to create an especially compact, light and rigid construction of the valve gear.
