Patent number: 6267218Abstract: A clamp-type locking mechanism has a driven element rotatably arranged with respect to a holding element and having ramps which together with a track of the holding element define clamping gaps for receiving spring-loaded clamp rollers. An adjustment element is swingable to a limited extent with respect to the driven element and provided for rotation in unison with the driven element, with the adjustment element having engagement members for moving the clamp rollers out of their clamping gaps. Located between the driven element and the holding element is a friction device for transmitting a friction moment. In order to maintain a correct friction moment during wear of the friction device, a spring mechanism is provided by which the friction device is biased with its friction surface against the holding element.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2000Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Ina Wälzlager Schaeffler oHGInventors: Harald Hochmuth, Joachim Ritter

Clutch designed as roller free-wheel for transmitting a torque acting in both directions of rotation
Patent number: 5460253Abstract: A free-running roller coupling transmits in both directions of rotation a torque between two structural members. This coupling has an outer ring in which clamping tracks are formed by recesses. An inner element has a cylindrical clamping track. Pairs of clamping rollers, prestressed by a pressure spring against the ramp-like end of each clamping track, are arranged between the clamping track of the inner element and the clamping tracks of the outer ring. An unblocking arrangement has comb-like carriers that extend through slots in an edge of the outer ring, which carriers can unblock the rollers while allowing the outer ring to be driven by a switching sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1994Date of Patent: October 24, 1995Assignee: Ina Walzlager Schaeffler KGInventors: Joachim Ritter, Ernst Neuwirth, Harold Hochmuth -
Patent number: 5407045Abstract: A locking element freewheel comprising an outer race ring (1) and an inner race ring (2) with cylindrical and mutually concentric locking surfaces (7,8) between which tiltably suspended locking elements (5) are guided in a cage (6) wherein the central portion of the locking surfaces (7,8) of the outer race ring (1) or inner race ring (2) has a smaller or larger diameter than the ends thereof. If, due to differing wall thicknesses, the race rings (1,2) have differing rigidity, the edge region of highest rigidity of the locking surfaces (7,8) of the outer race ring (1) and/or inner race ring (2) has a larger or smaller diameter and by such a profiling of the locking surfaces, an overloading at the edges of the locking elements is prevented.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1994Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Ina Walzlager Schaeffler KGInventors: Roland Welter, Joachim Ritter

Patent number: 5343992Abstract: The invention concerns a switchable locking element freewheel with two concentric cage rings and locking elements lodged in pockets thereof, the cage rings being movable relative to each other for switching the freewheel. In order to make such a freewheel basically operable in two opposing directions and to provide simple switchover facilities herefor and also for cases in which switchability is required only in one direction, the relative movement of the two cage rings serving to switch the freewheel is an axial displacement which, with a view to any further embodiments of the freewheel, can be converted into a rotary movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1993Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Assignee: Ina Walalager Schaeffler KGInventors: Johann Stark, Joachim Ritter

Patent number: 5005683Abstract: An overrunning clutch comprising a clamping ring provided with clamping ramps and spring-loaded clamping rollers housed in pockets of a cage and associated with the clamping ramps, the clutch being switchable from a first indexing position into a second by rotation of the cage with respect to the clamping ring. The cage is characterized by either directly or with the help of an intermediate member on the one hand, and the clamping ring with projections and recesses on the other, engage in each other in such a way after the fashion of a screw thread that when the cage or the intermediate member, as the case may be, is axially displaced, the cage executes a movement of rotation with respect to the clamping ring.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1989Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Assignee: INA Walzlager Schaeffler KGInventors: Joachim Ritter, Johann Stark
