    Abstract: A method for transmitting data to an electronic component of a motor vehicle, in particular a navigation system is disclosed. According to the method, data is generated in a computer system that is external to the motor vehicle and is subsequently transmitted by said computer system to a short message service centre, for example via the Internet. The data is then polled by the service centre in a time-delayed manner and is transmitted via a mobile radio connection as an individual short message in short message service format to the navigation system of the motor vehicle.
