  • Patent number: 6294147
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of ternary lithium spinels, and to ternary lithium spinels of the general formula LiaMebMn2−bOc. The invention is achieved in accordance with the invention by a process which comprises dissolving a manganese salt in water, adding an oxidant, adding the mixture to an aqueous lithium hydroxide solution containing from 0.1 to 1 % by weight, based on the content of LiOH employed, of seed crystals selected from the group consisting of activated carbon, Aerosil and spine, and separating off, washing and heating the precipitate.

  • Patent number: 5692509
Abstract: A process for therapeutic treatment of changes in human or animal bones which cause a boundary surface gap with a width of less than 5 millimeters to form between the bone and an acoustically reflective body such as an implant, a tooth or a bone fragment. The process include a first step of locating the desired boundary surface gap by means of a locating device; next the body of the patient is exposed to acoustical shock waves through the surface of the skin after focusing the shock waves on the boundary surface gap. Vibrations are generated in the bone surfaces, the surfaces of the acoustically reflecting body, and at the gap by multiple reflections of the generated shock waves. The preferred device for carrying out the process uses a therapy head to generate and focus acoustic shock waves in a predetermined direction. The shock waves are conducted through the surface of the skin into the body of the patient by a coupling unit.

  • Patent number: 5313954
Abstract: An apparatus for shockwave treatment of a patient, includes a shockwave generator and a detector of a cardiac signal which corresponds to the cardiac action of the patient. During the shockwave treatment, complications to the patient are prevented by the provision of an analyzer for determining extrasystoles in the cardiac signal, a frequency determining circuit which determines the frequency of occurrence of extrasystoles, and a control device responsive to the frequency determining circuit which controls the shockwave generator in dependence on the frequency of occurrence of extrasystoles.

  • Patent number: 4774060
Abstract: Equipment for purifying gases comprising a housing having opposing closed end faces and containing wetting fluid which is reactive to impurities in the gas to be purified; a cylinder rotatably mounted within the housing such that the cylinder is mounted between the closed end faces; a plurality of spaced apart plates extending outwardly of the cylinder and extending lengthwise along the cylinder so that as the cylinder rotates the plates are immersed in the wetting fluid and thereafter emerge from the wetting fluid; an air inlet opening for introducing air into the housing provided in one of the end faces such that air is not directed into the wetting fluid and an air outlet opening in the other of the closed end faces through which air exits; a gas inlet opening for introducing the gas to be purified into the housing and a gas outlet for removing the purified gas from the equipment, the gas inlet provided in one of the opposing closes end faces such that the gas to be purified is not directed into the wettin

  • Patent number: 4452873
Abstract: A positive electrode for galvanic high-temperature cells with solid negative electrodes based upon Li, Mg, Ca or Al is produced by sintering a heavy metal sulfide (e.g. FeS, CnS), with a heavy metal powder (e.g. Fe, Ni). In the sinter electrode the heavy metal powder present in weight percentage of about 20% to 40% forms a rigid electrically conductive framework in which the active heavy metal sulfide is embedded. The free-pore volume of the electrode is about 50%.

  • Patent number: 4074259
Abstract: A programmable analog-to-digital conversion system having a response characteristic which may be shaped as desired by selectively supplying digital control signals to a field effect transistor which controls the charging of a timing capacitor from a constant current source. The capacitor is thus charged at a non-linear rate (determined by the programming) toward a threshold value established by the magnitude of the analog input signal. As the capacitor is being charged, a counter is incremented. When the capacitor charge reaches the threshold value, the final count is displayed by an output device.
