  • Patent number: 10697359
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is described. The internal combustion engine comprises a valve control which is configured to close inlet valves of the internal combustion engine at Miller or Atkinson closing times. An electrified exhaust-gas turbocharger of the internal combustion engine comprises an electric machine which is operable selectively as a motor or generator. A control unit operates the electric machine of the electrified exhaust-gas turbocharger as a motor in a first load range of the internal combustion engine and as a generator in a second load range which corresponds to greater loads of the internal combustion engine than the first load range.

  • Patent number: 10436130
Abstract: A combustion engine for a vehicle has an intake duct through which a fuel gas/air/exhaust gas mixture can be fed to a combustion unit of the combustion engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation system feeding in an exhaust gas from the combustion unit at an exhaust gas admission region to the gas fed to the combustion unit. A measuring device that determines the fuel gas/air/exhaust gas mass flow and the fuel gas/air/exhaust gas temperature is arranged in the intake duct upstream of the combustion unit and downstream of the exhaust gas admission region. A temperature sensor is arranged both in the exhaust gas recirculation system and in the intake duct, in each case upstream of the exhaust gas admission region, in addition to the measuring device, to determine a recirculated exhaust gas mass flow and/or an air mass flow fed to the combustion unit.

  • Patent number: 10125701
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine using an external exhaust-gas recirculation device with a recirculation setting device to set the flow rate of the recirculated exhaust gas and using a closing time setting device to adjust the closing time of the at least one inlet valve of the internal combustion engine. For the reduction of nitrogen oxides emitted by the internal combustion engine, it is possible, by way of the closing time setting device, for a nitrogen oxide reduction cycle to be set in which the at least one inlet valve of the internal combustion engine closes earlier or later than in the basic cycle.

  • Publication number: 20160076467
Abstract: A combustion engine, in particular a gas engine, for a vehicle, in particular for a commercial vehicle, has an intake duct through which a gas, in particular a fuel gas/air/exhaust gas mixture, can be fed to a combustion unit), in particular a cylinder-piston unit, of the combustion engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation system feeding in an exhaust gas from the combustion unit at an exhaust gas admission region to the gas fed to the combustion unit. At least one measuring device that determines the gas mass flow, in particular fuel gas/air/exhaust gas mass flow, and the gas temperature, in particular fuel gas/air/exhaust gas temperature, is arranged in the intake duct upstream of the combustion unit and downstream of the exhaust gas admission region.

  • Publication number: 20150265978
Abstract: A homogenization apparatus for at least two fluid flows for homogeneous gas/air mixing in a gas engine, in which at least two fluid feed lines conducting different fluid flows and one fluid outflow line conducting the homogenized fluid are connected to a central homogenization space as mixing region. In a connection region upstream of the homogenization space, the fluid feed lines have in each case one line section with a flow deflection in one direction with a flow deflection which follows downstream in the other direction and are connected in such a way that the fluid flows are fed tangentially to the homogenization space with a swirl movement imparted to them, in such a way that a rotating, turbulent flow which assists the homogenization process is formed in the homogenization space.

  • Publication number: 20150142405
Abstract: A method for simulating the operation of an internal combustion engine, using a single-cylinder test bench device, and a data-processing device executing an engine simulation model which simulates a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. The engine simulation model determines a simulation value of at least one simulation variable, to be simulated, of the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, in particular air mass flow and/or exhaust gas recirculation rate on the basis of at least one test bench. operating value, in particular indicated mean pressure and/or exhaust gas temperature, which is detected at a defined test bench operating point of the single-cylinder test bench device by means of a measuring device and fed to the data-processing device.
