Abstract: An application in a computing environment is monitored by configuring an instance of a first application function in the computing environment; configuring an instance of an application function monitor in the computing environment; and activating the application function monitor response to an activation of the first application function. The instance of the first application function and the instance of the application function monitor operate independently of one another when activated, and the application function monitor, when activated, monitors one or more of: a continued functioning of the activated first application function; and an output produced by the activated first application function.

Abstract: A method for packing a media bed in a column (3). According to the invention the method comprises the steps of: providing data to a control unit (15) connected to the column (3), said data comprising at least a measured slurry concentration, a target bed height, a target packing factor or compression factor and minimum and maximum acceptable values for at least one of target bed height and target packing or compression factor; forcing a movable adapter (9) along a longitudinal axis of the column (3) in order to pack the media; detecting when the media bed is consolidated; the control unit (15) processing the provided data and the information about the consolidated bed height in order to present to the user acceptable bed heights, if there are any, giving acceptable packing or compression factors.

Abstract: A method for determining the concentration of a chromatographic medium in a liquid slurry comprises the steps of: providing a column (1) having a top end (3) and a bottom end (2) and adapted to retain a chromatographic medium therein; introducing a defined volume of the slurry (15) into the column (1); providing a liquid flow through the column (1) from the top end to the bottom end of the column to settle the chromatographic medium in the column; measuring the bed height of the consolidated chromatographic medium or a value related thereto; and determining from the measured bed height or value related thereto the concentration, or a value related to the concentration of the chromatographic medium in the slurry. A device for performing the method as well as the use of the method in packing of especially large scale columns are also disclosed.
