    Abstract: The invention provides a method of identifying a subset of cancer patients with a poor prognosis, comprising comparing the allelic expression of a mutant and wildtype PIK3CA allele in a patient sample. The invention further teaches the use of drugs targeting the mutant PI3K protein in a subset of patients which are determined to express the a mutant PIK3CA allele above a certain threshold, in addition to a kit, or system with which PIK3CA allelic expression may be assessed.
