The method includes retrieving a source model for a 3D object and a plurality of defined control points for the 3D object from a database; receiving modifications to at least some of the control points from a first user; automatically applying the modifications to the source model to create a modified model; and automatically generating print instructions for manufacture of a customized version of the 3D object. A system and 3D models generated by the method are also disclosed.
