    Abstract: The present invention provides a composition and a concentrate, comprising: (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) a quaternary ammonium salt of a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent condensation product, and (c) an optional amount of a succinimide dispersant different from (b), and a use of the composition or concentrate for lubricating an engine. In a further embodiment, the invention provides the use of a quaternary ammonium salt of a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent condensation product as a dispersant in a lubricating composition, and as a synergistic dispersant combination with a different succinimide dispersant.
