Abstract: A desired file (182) of a filesystem (105) is recovered from a data stream (160) for use by a multimedia services application (181, 252) at a client (150), such as a Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) client. The DSMCC module (175) in the middleware (254) of the client is bypassed to avoid potential problems and reduce computational complexity. The filesystem is provided in modules (130, 140, 150), while the modules are provided in sections (161, 163, 165, 167), in a Digital Storage Media-Command and Control (DSM-CC) carousel. The multimedia services application recovers the desired file directly by filtering the data stream to recover the sections, and recover a module from the recovered sections, using an associated identifier. The multimedia services application recovers the desired file from the recovered module using an object key that indicates the location of the desired file in the recovered module.
