Patent number: 6707860Abstract: A method and offset removing apparatus for removing DC offset from a digital baseband signal value pair included in a set of digital baseband signal value pairs is described. The digital baseband signal value pairs, when plotted on a complex signal space I-Q diagram, lie on a predetermined figure. The I and Q coordinates of the central point of this predetermined figure are determined by a two-dimensional fitting of this figure through a subset of signal value pairs included within the set. These coordinates of this center point are subsequently subtracted from the I and Q coordinates of the digital baseband signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2000Date of Patent: March 16, 2004Assignee: AlcatelInventor: Joannes Mathilda Josephus Sevenhans

Patent number: 6556093Abstract: A voltage controlled oscillator with automatic center frequency calibration. The frequency range of the oscillator is increased by switchable capacitor circuits which add or remove extra capacitors in parallel with the variable capacitor of the resonant circuit. Different voltage versus frequency characteristics are obtained. The switchable capacitor circuits are controlled by a detection circuit that sends a reset pulse to a feedback circuit of the VCO when a control voltage from the feedback circuit reaches predetermined low or high voltage limits of the characteristics. Upon reception of the reset pulse, the feedback circuit changes the control voltage from the reached limit into an intermediate voltage between the low and high voltage limits. The control voltage is reset in the middle of a voltage versus frequency characteristic onto which the output frequency is also centered. The VCO includes a selection circuit adapted to immediately change the value of the control voltage.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Jan Frans Lucien Craninckx, Mark Maria Albert Ingels, Frank Nico Lieven Op't Eynde, Joannes Mathilda Josephus Sevenhans

Publication number: 20020033741Abstract: A voltage controlled oscillator with automatic center frequency calibration. The frequency range (FOUT) of the oscillator is increased because of the presence of switchable capacitor circuits (SW1, XC1; SW2, XC2) which add or remove extra capacitors (XC1; XC2) in parallel with the variable capacitor (CV) of the resonant circuit (CV, L). Different voltage versus frequency characteristics (CHL, CHM, CHH) are so obtained. The control of the switchable capacitor circuits is performed by a detection circuit (DET). The detection circuit is further adapted to send a reset pulse (RES) to a feedback circuit (FB) of the VCO when a control voltage (VCTRL), provided by the feedback circuit, reaches predetermined low (VTL) or high (VTH) voltage limits of the characteristics. Upon reception of the reset pulse, the feedback circuit changes the control voltage from the reached limit into an intermediate voltage (VTM) in the middle of the range between the low and the high voltage limits.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2001Publication date: March 21, 2002Applicant: ALCATELInventors: Jan Frans Lucien Craninckx, Mark Maria Albert Ingels, Frank Nico Lieven Op't Eynde, Joannes Mathilda Josephus Sevenhans

Patent number: 6357044Abstract: A Hybrid Fiber-Coax [HFC] telecommunication system including several modulation devices (MC1-MCn) and a combiner device (CSN) coupled thereto. The modulation devices provide modulated telecommunication signals under the form of output currents that are applied to the combiner device that is further connected to a coaxial cable (COAX) for transmitting thereon these modulated signals in predetermined frequency channels according to the Frequency Division Multiple Access [FDMA] structure. The invention comprises in operating the combiner device as a current-mode summing node instead as of a voltage-mode summing node. As a result, the implementation is relatively easy, because a current summing node may be just a single junction point, and its linearity is thus obviously high.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1998Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Joannes Mathilda Josephus Sevenhans, Christian Raymond Albert Botte, Christiaan Elise Willem Van Der Auwera

Patent number: 6326914Abstract: An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for telecommunication applications such as ASDLNDSL UMTS/GPRS wherein the conversion is realized in current mode instead of voltage mode. The power consumption is thereby reduced and the converter is adapted to be used in (low voltage) battery operated products. The structure of the converter is also simplified because summing of currents is easier than summing of voltages. The converter comprises at least a first set of N=64 first current cells (CC) coupled in parallel between lines (L+, L−) of a differential current bus. Each first current cell comprises a current source (ICC) to supply a first additional current (64×Iref) to the current bus under control of first comparator circuits (COMP1+, COMP1−). The first comparator circuits of the current cells are coupled in cascade and activated step-by-step one after each other.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: AlcatelInventor: Joannes Mathilda Josephus Sevenhans
