Abstract: This invention relates to sulfonated lubricating agents for leather and furs. More specifically, this invention relates to a process for the production of sulfonated lubricating agent for leather and tanned furs consisting of the steps of:(a) sulfochlorinating higher fatty acids or esters of higher fatty acids having chain lengths of from 8 to 24 carbon atoms with chlorine and SO.sub.2 at a temperature of from about 20.degree. to 90.degree. C. under UV-radiation for a time sufficient to obtain a compound having a chlorine content of from about 5 to 30 percent by weight and a content of --SO.sub.2 Cl groups of from about 1 to 20 percent by weight, the ratio of chlorine atoms to --SO.sub.2 Cl groups being from about 0.7:1 to 70:1; and(b) forming a water-emulsifiable alkali metal, ammonium, or lower alkyl-ammonium salt of the compound produced in step (a).

Abstract: The formation of troublesome microfoams in aqueous lacquer and synthetic resin dispersions, particularly in gloss lacquers, is prevented by the addition of from about 0.01 to about 1.5% by weight of a silicone-free foam inhibitor mixture. This mixture consists of (a) from about 70 to about 98% by weight of a mineral oil liquid at room temperature or a mixture of such mineral oil with a C.sub.16 -C.sub.30 branched alcohol of the following formulaR.sup.1 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CHR.sup.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 OH (I)in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are C.sub.4 -C.sub.16 alkyl radicals, (b) from about 0.2 to about 5% by weight of a microcrystalline wax, (c) from about 0.5 to about 20% by weight of hard paraffin, (d) from 0.05 to 5% by weight of hydrophobized finely divided silica, and (e) from 0 to about 10% by weight of a soft paraffin (M.p. 32.degree.-42.degree. C.). Component (a) preferably consists of a mixture of mineral oil and branched alcohol (I) in a ratio of from 50:1 to 1:1.

Abstract: The formation of troublesome microfoams in aqueous lacquer and synthetic resin dispersions, particularly in gloss lacquers, is prevented by the addition of from 0.01 to 1.5% by weight of a silicone-free foam inhibitor mixture. These foam inhibitor mixtures contain (a) from 70 to 98% by weight of a liquid, branched C.sub.16 -C.sub.30 alcohol, (b) from 0.5 to 20% by weight of hard paraffin, and (c) from 0.05 to 5% by weight of hydrophobized finely divided silica, and, optionally, small quantities of other ingredients.

Abstract: A process for the production of a mixed formal of polyglycol ethers having formulae selected from the group consisting of ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a straight or branched chain alkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and straight or branched chain alkyl having from 1 to 17 carbon atoms, where the sum of the carbon atoms in R.sup.1 plus R.sup.2 is from 6 to 18, R.sup.3 is a member selected from the group consisting of monoalkylphenyl having from 14 to 26 carbon atoms, dialkylphenyl having from 14 to 26 carbon atoms, trialkylphenyl having from 14 to 26 carbon atoms, a straight or branched chain alkyl having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, a straight or branched chain alkenyl having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, and a radical having the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the above assigned values, and R.sup.

Abstract: This invention is directed to quaternary compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of from about 1 to 21 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or has the same meaning as R.sup.1, the total number of carbon atoms in R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 being from 6 to 22, and, when R.sup.2 is hydrogen, R.sup.1 has from 6 to 21 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 represents an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a radical of formula ##STR2## wherein R and R are devined above, X and Y are each either hydrogen or a methyl group, with the proviso that X and Y cannot both be a methyl group, and p is an integer of from 1 to 20; R.sup.4 represents an alkyl radical of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; m and n are integers of from about 1 to 20; and A.crclbar. is an anion. The quaternary compounds are useful as fabric softeners.

Abstract: Dispersion adjuvants are described comprising .beta.-hydroxyalkyl esters of the formula ##STR1## wherein the R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen or alkyl with 1 to 21 carbon atoms, in which at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is alkyl and the sum of the carbon atoms in R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 ranges from 6 to 22, and wherein R.sub.3 represents alkyl with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with 1 to 2 hydroxyl groups and/or interrupted by 1 to 2 ether bridges, as well as the adducts of compounds of Formula I with alkylene oxides, preferably ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide. The dispersion adjuvants are coated on pigment and filler materials for paints and lacquers. The coating is applied before or during the dispersion of the materials in the paint or lacquer media or vehicle.

Abstract: Stable, aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solutions of fat-soluble perfume oils, containing hydroxyalkyl ether-ethoxylates of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and/or R.sub.2 are an alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms or hydrogen, and R.sub.3 and/or R.sub.4 are an alkyl group having 2 to 22 carbon atoms or hydrogen, and x and y independently are integers of from 1 to 16, with the proviso that the total of the carbon atoms of R.sub.1 +R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 +R.sub.4 is from 2 to 26 and the total of the integers x+y is a value of from 2 to 18.
