  • Patent number: 8935046
Abstract: Techniques are described for visualizing a roadway transition along an ascertained route course for a navigation device. In an implementation, the navigation device may include a display and a data processing device to identify a roadway transition from a first road onto a second road along an ascertained route course and present navigation information in a first and second operating mode. The second operating mode may include roadway transition visualization generated by dynamically superpositioning a first visualization layer, which may include road characteristics and location information, and a second visualization layer, which may include the ascertained route course along the identified roadway transition.

  • Patent number: 8630801
Abstract: A system and method for determining and displaying a navigation route on a navigation device from one vehicle position to a travel destination. The navigation device can include processor with RAM, a mass storage device for holding a database with geographic data, as well as a display. Depending on whether a complex intersection is present on the navigation route, the complex intersection can be shown on the display in the form of a single perspective view. Embodiments of the invention can provide a high level of correlation between the actual situation on the road as seen by the user and the corresponding navigation maneuver displayed on the screen. The graphic output of navigation devices for complex intersections can also be improved regardless of whether the navigation device is a high-performance or very simple device.

  • Patent number: 8237744
Abstract: A method for operating a navigation device provides a driver with the option of being presented with an overview of the route lying ahead in addition to a detailed illustration of the current position along the route section, namely without any complicated interactions with the navigation device. This navigation device independently changes the scale of the display of the route on the display means in dependence on a manually selected operating mode. The advantage of this method can be seen in a semi-automated solution that always enables the driver to decide exactly which information should be displayed by his navigation device at which time.

  • Patent number: 8224562
Abstract: A method for the automatic, computer-assisted determination of a route travelable by motor vehicles from a starting point to a destination point based on digitalized map data, wherein a computer acquires a starting point and destination point and determines the route based on possible road segments in such a way that the automatically generated route has a high recreational value. To this end, it is proposed that the computer determining the route preferably incorporate those road segments into the route that exhibit a high number of curves.

  • Publication number: 20100312466
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for navigating a vehicle along a route from a starting position or an instantaneous position to a destination. To this end, a route calculation device of a navigation device calculates a route course which is composed of a sequence of several coherent roads stored on a digital map of a memory device as a first route, and additionally calculates at least one alternative route by allocating a penalty attribute, especially increased average traveling time, road distance or the like, to at least one road of the first route. The method comprises at least the following steps of: S1: entering at least one destination; S2: calculating a first route; S3: allocating a penalty attribute to at least one road of the first route; S4: calculating at least one additional route; S7: representing the routes and selecting a route; S8: navigational guidance along the selected route.

  • Publication number: 20100256899
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, wherein maneuvering instructions are output (09) for the user of a navigation system (10). For the schematic graphical illustration of a maneuvering instruction at an intersection, the position geometry of the road segments and junctions associated with the intersection is analyzed and a schematic maneuvering view (11) is calculated. In order to illustrate the intersection, predefined illustration elements (01-08) are loaded from a database as a function of the result of the analysis, and/or illustration elements (?) that are individually dependent on the position geometry are calculated.

  • Publication number: 20090222271
Abstract: A method for operating a navigation system analyzes several address components to determine the most likely address desired by a user. The navigation device includes a receiving device on which an acoustic address input consisting of several input components can be registered. The input components of the address are analyzed with a speech recognition module, wherein at least one geographical location, which is defined by an address with several address components, is selected from a database for further processing depending on the result of the speech recognition analysis. The method includes analyzing several address component combinations to determine the most likely address inputted by the user.

  • Publication number: 20090187335
Abstract: A device for ascertaining and displaying a route course for a transportation means comprises a road network. In particular, a navigation device having a data processing device, which is also used to ascertain the route course, and having display means, which are also used to visualize the ascertained route course. The device has at least temporary access to a road network database, and is set up in such a way that upon the existence of a correction of the current direction of the transportation means necessary for following the ascertained route course, which is caused by a transition of the route course from a first road onto a second road, in particular by a road intersection or by a road branch, an automatic change is performed between at least one first and one second operating mode. One of the at least two operating modes causes a visualization of the transition on the display means by at least partial dynamic superposition of at least two visualization layers.
