    Abstract: High molecular weight protein/fatty acid condensation products obtained by reaction of one mole of a protein hydrolysate of average molecular mass 3,000 to 7,000 with 0.5 to 3, preferably 2 to 2.5, moles of a C.sub.12 -C.sub.18 -fatty acid chloride in aqueous medium at a pH of 7 to 12. These protein/fatty acid condensation products are distinguished by eliciting no mucosal irritation whatever. They are therefore outstandingly suitable as surfactants for mild washing and cleansing agents.

    Abstract: Fatty acid-modified polysters composed of polyalkylene oxide and dimerized fatty acids, of the formula ##STR1## in which R is C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 -alkyl or C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 -alkenyl, preferably C.sub.12 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, R.sup.1 is the alkyl skeleton of a dimerized fatty acid having 22 to 42, preferably 34 carbon atoms, A is --C.sub.2 H.sub.4 -- or --C.sub.3 H.sub.6 --, n is a number from 1 to 5, preferably 1 to 3, and x is a number from 20 to 150, preferably 23 to 140. These are prepared by simultaneous reaction of the underlying dimerized fatty acid, polyalkylene oxide and fatty acid. The polyesters obtained are used as agents for increasing the viscosity of surfactant-containing cosmetic, pharmaceutical and industrial products.

    Abstract: Adsorbents for polar organic compounds can be prepared by reacting 5-80% of an organic ammonium compound with 20-95% of a crystalline alkali metal phyllosilicate belonging to the group comprising phyllosilicates of the formulaMe.sub.2 Si.sub.x O.sub.2x+1.yH.sub.2 Oin which Me denotes an alkali metal ion or a proton, x denotes a number greater than 7, in particular from 7.5 to 23, and y denotes a number smaller than 7x. These organophilic phyllosilicic acids are capable of binding considerable amounts of organic compounds, such as, for example, fats or softeners. They are, therefore, excellently suitable for use as additives for enhancing the washing action in detergents or as a depot for organic compounds.

These compounds are obtained by partially quaternizing the parent polyamines with the alkali metal salt of an .omega.-halogenocarboxylic acid and then oxidizing the non-quaternized nitrogen atoms. These betaine-amine oxides are suitable for use as surfactants in cleansing agents.
