  • Patent number: 9371983
Abstract: Disclosed is a retractable lighting fixture having a retractable LED lighting layer. One or more optical layers (40, 240A/B, 340A/B, 440) may optionally be provided over the LED lighting layer (30, 230, 330, 430). The optical layer(s) and the LED lighting layer may optionally be movable relative to one another between at least being in an expanded spaced relation to one another and a compressed relation to one another. One or more LEDs (34, 134, 234A/B, 334A/B, 434) on the LED lighting layer may be individually controllable and such LEDs (34, 134, 234A/B, 334A/B, 434) may be selectively extinguished when they are in a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 9372298
Abstract: The invention relates to a luminaire that enables the use of more sparsely distributed light sources, having a uniform fixture surface brightness and good color mixing. The luminaire comprises first and second light guide layers (10, 11) optically coupled together by at least one optical coupler (12a, 12b), which allows the passage of light from the first (10) to the second light guide layer (11). The luminaire also comprises a plurality of light sources (16a, 16b), each of which being arranged such that light emitted by the light source (16a, 16b) is coupled into the first light guide layer (10) at an interface surface (17)arranged substantially perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the first light guide layer (10). The luminaire further comprises a scattering element (14) adapted to cause light to be emitted from an emitting surface of the second light guide layer (11).

  • Publication number: 20160102843
Abstract: An optical element for use in front of a light source 102 for obtaining a skylight appearance, and a luminaire are provided. The optical element comprising a plurality of light transmitting cells in a raster structure 140, a diffuser 145 and an edge wall 130. A light source 102 emits light towards the raster structure 140. The raster structure 140 collimates a part of the light and transmits a further part of the light in a predetermined spectral range. White light 114 and colored light 112 that is transmitted by the raster structure 140 may impinge upon the side wall 130 of the optical element. One face of the side wall 130 is a region of specular reflectivity 135 and will reflect the light that impinges upon it back into the chamber 125 that is formed by the cooperation of the raster structure 140, the diffuser 145 and the edge wall 130. Light exits the optical element through the diffuser 145.
