  • Patent number: 7654555
Abstract: The invention relates to a module (1) for an occupant-protection device of a motor vehicle. Said module containing a functional element (2), which can be activated if the motor vehicle is involved in a collision and which comprises an electrically conductive material and a fixing device (3) mechanically fixing the functional element (2) to the bodywork of the motor vehicle. According to the invention, the functional element (2) is electrically insulated in relation to the bodywork of the motor vehicle. According to the invention, the functional element (2) is electrically insulated in relation to the bodywork of the motor vehicle. This guarantees that the functional element, which can be activated in a collision, cannot electrically interact with the bodywork of the motor vehicle, is particular in the form of a voltage surge. The invention permits the reliability of a module for an occupant-protection device of a motor vehicle to be increased and prevents potential malfunctions in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 7641224
Abstract: A vehicle occupant restraint systems including an airbag which has a first airbag chamber and a second airbag chamber or, more generally, a first partial region and a second partial region. The first and the second airbag chambers are connected to each other so that, as a function of the internal pressures present, gas from the first airbag chamber can flow into the second airbag chamber and gas from the second airbag chamber can flow into the first airbag chamber. The second airbag chamber may include an elastic wall, so that, upon a loading of the first airbag chamber, gas flows into the second airbag chamber and, in the process, elastically expands the second airbag chamber.

  • Publication number: 20080179867
Abstract: An airbag for a vehicle passenger restraint system includes at least one airbag chamber that can be filled with gas and has at least one outflow device through which gas can escape from the airbag chamber. The outflow device includes a tubular extension defined on a wall of the at least one airbag chamber that provides an outflow opening of the at least one airbag chamber. The airbag includes at least a first airbag chamber and a second airbag chamber. The tubular extension is defined on the first airbag chamber and extends into the second airbag chamber. When the airbag is triggered, the second airbag chamber is filled with gas solely by the tubular extension. The tubular extension bends over in the second airbag chamber when no gas is flowing through it to constitute a valve and allow gas to flow only in the direction of the second airbag chamber.

  • Patent number: 6290253
Abstract: A restraint device for vehicle occupants, in particular for the lateral restraining of the occupant, comprising an inflatable gas bag (10) and a tensioning device which is connected with the vehicle, engages the gas bag, pulls the gas bag into an intended position on inflation, and holds the gas bag in this position, is characterized in that the tensioning device has at least one inflatable tightening means (20) which shortens in the pulling direction by the inflation and thereby exerts a tensile force on the gas bag.
