  • Patent number: 10283821
Abstract: The invention relates to a battery comprising a battery housing and at least one battery cell and at least one fiber optic sensor which has at least one waveguide with a core and a material surrounding said core. At least one fiber Bragg grating is introduced in the core and is mechanically coupled to the battery housing and/or to the battery cell in order to detect a change in size of the battery housing and/or of the battery cell. At least a second fiber Bragg grating is introduced in the core and is mechanically decoupled from the battery housing and the battery cell. The invention further relates to a method for the open loop or closed loop control of the charging and/or discharging of a battery, measurement values being acquired by at least one fiber optic sensor.

  • Publication number: 20160024785
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a fire and smoke protection system for limiting the spread of fire and smoke through an opening, including those in building structures. The system includes a flexible protection member configurable in a storage configuration for subsequent deployment into a protection configuration when fire occurs. The flexible protection member is configurable in single and/or multi-layer arrangements with one or more materials, alone or in combination, and using a variety of construction methods. Generally, the flexible protection member is manufacturable using fire resistant woven and knitted fabric elements, metal foil elements, intumescent elements, and/or wire mesh elements arranged to increase the resistance to forces encountered during a fire. The various elements may be seamed using different stitching patterns and gathered using non-fire resistant thread in order to increase flexibility and resistance to forces.

  • Patent number: 9127501
Abstract: A lead system for a fire/smoke protection device that enables deployment/retraction of the device's flexible protection member relative to a building wall opening and improves the member's resistance to forces. The system comprises lead guides for guiding the flexible protection member between storage and protection configurations, for permitting stretching when a force is applied, and for transferring forces to the building. The guides are configured with the flexible protection member to slidably receive member loops extending about lead members. The guides and lead members are also configured to allow lead member movement and permit elastic deformation or destruction of connections between certain internal guide components, when a force is exerted on the flexible protection member. Additionally, the system comprises one or more members configured with a flexible protection member having a bar to enable bar movement during stretching of the flexible protection member responsive to a force.

  • Publication number: 20140190709
Abstract: A smoke or fire protection device securely seals an opening for limiting the spread of fire and smoke through the opening of a building. A sealing lip and flexible ballast arranged at the foot of the opening of the building such that a flexible protection element is situated on the ground when the device is deployed to the protection arrangement. A locking device to lock a rod in an activated position when the device is deployed to said protection arrangement. The flexible protection element configured in a variety of arrangements using various materials and numerous construction methods. A lead guide for the device improves the resistance of the flexible protection member to forces exerted thereon. As such, the device may have certain advantages in limiting the spread of fire and smoke while resisting external forces and retaining mechanical strength and stability sufficient to pass the Hose Stream Test.

  • Publication number: 20020059985
Abstract: A curtain consists of a web of temperature resistant material that forms a web surface and that may be unwound from a coil that is arranged on a coil core. The curtain web has lateral edge regions on either side of the web so as to be separated by the curtain web's width and upper and lower end edge region. The curtain web includes a first outer web layer, and inner layer of fibrous material that extends over a predetermined length and that forms two opposed surfaces, one of which is adjacent to the first outer web layer. The curtain web also includes a second outer layer that is adjacent to the other surface of the inner layer. The curtain arrangement further includes a supply for a liquid fire retardant that extends with in the region of the upper end edge region and over the width of the curtain so as to supply the liquid to the fibrous material.

  • Patent number: 5862851
Abstract: A curtain consists of a web of temperature resistant material forming a web surface and may be unwound from a coil arranged on a coil core. The coil is supported by a bearing arrangement including at least one supporting surface so that the coil core, at least on one of its ends, is supported adjustably in height within a guidance. Alternatively or in combination, the curtain is guided by lateral guide bars including an arrangement for preventing the inserted curtain edge to be drawn out. Another feature is that at least two curtain webs the surfaces of which face each other have a common end bar forming a weight for the curtain.
