  • Patent number: 4193437
Abstract: A self supporting tire having a nonstaining high modulus low hysteresis inner sidewall composition comprising: (a) 100 parts by weight of sulfur vulcanizable rubber of which from about 50 to about 95 parts by weight is natural rubber and/or cis-polyisoprene and from about 5 to about 50 parts by weight is at least one elastomer selected from the group consisting of styrene-butadiene and cis-polybutadiene; and (b) from about 25 to about 80 parts by weight of carbon black per 100 parts by weight of rubber, wherein said carbon black has a dibutyl phthalate absorption value greater than about 80 and a particle size less than about 50 milli-microns. The self supporting tire is capable of operating both as a pneumatic tire under ordinary inflated conditions and also has the capability of operating without inflation for limited distance.
