  • Patent number: 5419435
Abstract: A sharps disposal system providing a frame and a container having an opening and being selectively mountable to the frame. A lid is pivotally attached to the frame and is selectively movable into engagement with the container when the container is mounted to the frame. Engaging the container with the lid closes the opening except for an aperture through which sharps can be inserted into the container but which impedes insertion of human hands. Engaging the container with the lid also impedes removal of the container from the frame. The system employs a means for selectively locking the lid into engagement with the container. The system further provides a cover for selectively sealing said opening.

  • Patent number: 4901749
Abstract: A cartridge valve 10 for a faucet has a shell 12 housing a movable valve plate 22 and an operating stem 20 able to control the plate 22 by operating mechanism 17. A bottom member 19 has hot and cold water inlets 54 and 56. A fixed valve plate 23 is seated on the bottom member 19 and has hot and cold water outlets 50 and 52 in communication with the inlets 54 and 56. The shell has orienting notches 42 and 44 with notch 44 having a removable prong 46 therein. Bottom member 19 has two orienting tabs 38 and 40 with tab 40 having a groove 48 that receives prong 46 to assure a correct first orientation of the bottom member to shell 12. The prong 46 can be removed if the bottom member 19 is desired to mount to the shell 12 in a second reversed position that is 180.degree. rotated from the first orientation.

  • Patent number: 4896381
Abstract: The combination plaster guard and mounting bracket (10) has a mounting bracket section (12) which is mounted to a mixing valve fitting (18). A tubular protective member (14) is connected to the mounting section via frangible tabs (24). The tubular member (14) is sized to receive and protect the mixing valve (16) during installation of the valve and construction of the surrounding wall. During certain installations, it is desirable for removal of the tubular member from the mounting section. The removal can be accomplished by rotation of the tubular member so that frangible tabs (24) break to release the tubular member from the bracket section (12).

  • Patent number: 4805661
Abstract: A faucet valve 10 includes a ball valve 28 seated in a valve chamber 18. The ball valve 28 has a plurality of apertures 46 circumferentially spaced about the control stem 32 which extends through an opening 60 in the cap assembly 48 of the valve housing 16. A check valve 66 is formed within the hollow interior 62 of the ball valve and includes a disc section 70 that mounts a flap valve 78. A shield formed by a cylindrical wall 80 downwardly depending from the disc section 70 and a snap ring 84 fitted on the lower end of the cylindrical wall protects the flap valve from undue water turbulence. Negative pressure in the supply inlet opens the flap valve 78 to draw air through passageway 64 formed by the apertures 46 and auxiliary opening 60 and hollow interior 62 of the ball valve seated in the valve chamber 18.

  • Patent number: 4523604
Abstract: A diverter valve assembly includes a valve body rotatably mounted in a cavity of a housing. The housing has an inlet connected to a water supply, a tub spout outlet, and a showerhead outlet. The showerhead outlet is connected to a showerhead via a riser. The valve body has a jet orifice in communication with the inlet and alignable with one of the outlets. The valve body also has a flange which rotatably seats an elastomeric sleeve. The sleeve, when the jet orifice is aligned with an outlet, is aligned with the other outlet. The sleeve and flange form a pressure chamber which is in communication with the inlet. When the sleeve is aligned over the tub spout outlet, and the water supply is turned on, the back pressure caused by the showerhead flexes the sleeve to seal the tub spout orifice. When the water supply is turned off, the elastomeric sleeve relaxes to allow water to drain from the riser to the tub spout without the valve assembly changing position.
