  • Patent number: 7156844
Abstract: An electrosurgical pencil is provided which includes an elongated housing, an electrocautery blade supported within the housing and extending distally from the housing. The electrocautery blade is connected to a source of electrosurgical energy. The pencil also includes at least one activation switch supported on the housing which is configured and adapted to complete a control loop extending from the source of electrosurgical energy. At least one voltage divider network is also supported on the housing and is electrically connected to the source of electrosurgical energy.

  • Patent number: 7103947
Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument includes a pair of first and second elongated shafts each having an end effector attached to a distal end thereof and a handle. The handle is movable from a first position wherein the end effectors are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the end effectors are closer relative to one another. Each of the elongated shafts includes a hinge plate which mounts atop a pivot assembly for effecting movement of the end effectors relative to one another. The instrument also includes a hinge assembly made from an overmold composition which encapsulates and secures the hinge plates and the pivot assembly. The overmold composition is made from an electrically insulating material which insulates the end effectors from one another.

  • Patent number: 7060064
Abstract: An electrosurgical electrode shroud including a hollow substantially cylindrical member having a first end portion and a second end portion; the first end portion defining an opening which is configured and dimensioned to receive an electrosurgical electrode assembly therein; the second end portion defining an opening which is configured and dimensioned to receive an electrode mounting portion of an electrosurgical instrument, wherein at least the second end portion is formed of a substantially translucent material. The electrosurgical electrode shroud may further include visual or tactile indicator on the second end portion for indicating a depth of penetration of the electrosurgical instrument within the second end portion when viewed by the surgeon through the translucent material.

  • Publication number: 20040260280
Abstract: An electrosurgical suction coagulator includes a handle having an elongated tube electrode or conductive suction tube extending from a distal end of the handle. The elongated suction tube includes a substantially blunt or closed distal end and an elongated slot disposed therethrough for slideably receiving a needle electrode. The needle electrode is selectively extendible relative to the closed distal end to facilitate precise dissection. When retracted, the user can use the closed distal end for spot or blunt coagulation. At least one aspiration port is disposed along a side of the elongated suction tube for removing surgical fluids from the operating area.
