Abstract: A hinge assembly for coupling a lid to a container is provided. The hinge assembly includes a lid, a container, a hinge pin having first and second ends. The hinge pin includes a linear portion interrupted by a bend forming a protrusion. The lid includes a first pair of knuckles connected by a first channel and the container includes a second pair of knuckles connected by a second channel. The first and second knuckles align to cooperatively form a hinge pin channel that receives the hinge pin. The protrusion of the hinge pin engages an opening in the second channel of the second pair of knuckles to lock and retain the hinge pin in the hinge pin channel while allowing rotational movement of the lid relative to the container. A method of coupling a lid and container using the hinge assembly is also provided.
