  • Patent number: 5611454
Abstract: An apparatus for forming an extruded cylindrical closed-ended metal tube having a flat end wall and an integrally formed projection on the end wall includes a die having a recess formed therein, the die having a configuration which corresponds to the terminal end portion of the desired tube and including a cavity which corresponds to the desired projection. The apparatus further includes a punch which is receivable in the die, and includes an end wall having a peripheral portion which extends angularly outwardly at an angle of between approximately 10.degree. and 20.degree. relative to a plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the die. The apparatus is operative by placing an extrudable metal disc in the recess in the die and advancing the punch into the recess with sufficient force to extrude metal from the disc into the cavity and also between the punch and the die to form the desired tube.

  • Patent number: 5500205
Abstract: Aerosol lachrymator formulations are provided having all natural pepper extracts as the active ingredient. The lachrymator formulations are useful in self-defense devices. The formulations are non-toxic and have a broader spectrum of activity than man-made lachrymators. These aerosol formulations rely on a carbon dioxide propellant, which is generated in situ.

  • Patent number: 5388730
Abstract: A lockable actuator mechanism for an aerosol or pump dispensing canister is disclosed. The lockable actuator comprises a collar fixedly mounted to a canister and an actuation plunger concentrically mounted in the collar. The collar includes a shoulder onto which the actuation plunger may be rotated into a locked, safety position to prevent depression of the plunger. Tabs located on the collar above the plunger prevent the plunger from being removed from the housing and cooperate with a detent on the shoulder to wedge the plunger over the shoulder and prevent the plunger from rotating back into the operative position. The tabs also eliminate the need for a friction fit of the actuation plunger on the valve stem. The actuation plunger has an internal annular shoulder against which the valve stem abuts in the depressed position.

  • Patent number: 5305582
Abstract: A method is provided for the two-stage pressurizing of a product in which a propellant gas may be immediately generated for use as a high-pressure propellant after the sealing of the container. A first reactant and the flowable or sprayable product which is desired to be dispensed is placed into the container until the container is substantially full. The container is then sealed. A second reactant, which may be dissolved in a further amount of product, is introduced in liquid form into the sealed container through a dispensing valve, another valve, or a sealable plug. The first and second reactants react to generate the propellant, which is then contained or dissolved with the product in the container until needed. As product is expelled, the propellant evolves out of the product to exert expulsive pressure. Thus, the invention involves the process of charging during the filling of product and allows the product to be dispensed promptly and continuously thereafter.

  • Patent number: 5248063
Abstract: The invention provides a barrier pack dispensing container having an outer container and a laminated, inner barrier tube with at least one metal barrier layer for substantial impermeability against contamination of product by propellant. In one embodiment, the laminate core contains a layer of pinhole-free aluminum bonded to an inner layer of thermoplastic to prevent contamination of product by the metal layer. A further inner plastic layer may be used. Prior to forming the tube, a first marginal side edge of the core is covered with a bead of plastic to prevent delamination. The laminate core is curved about a mandrel to form a tube having a second marginal side edge overlapping said beaded first side edge disposed inward of the tube, and sufficient pressure is applied with heat to form a laminate joint. The tube is cut to a desired length, crimped at one end, then crimped between the collar of the outer container and valve top assembly.
