  • Patent number: 10176411
Abstract: Performing optical mark recognition (OMR) scanning includes receiving a substrate to be scanned, the substrate having one or more colors visible to a human eye and bearing user-made marks; moving the substrate and a light sensor relative to each other such that the substrate moves past the light sensor a single time; during the relative movement of the substrate, scanning the substrate using multiple colors of light to simultaneously generate both (a) image data representing a visual appearance of the substrate, and (b) OMR data corresponding to respective locations of the user-made marks on the substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 26, 2016
Date of Patent: January 8, 2019
    Assignee: Scantron Corporation

  • Patent number: 9800753
Abstract: Performing optical mark recognition (OMR) scanning includes receiving a first substrate to be scanned, the first substrate having one or more colors visible to a human eye and bearing user-made marks; scanning the first substrate using a plurality of colors of light emitted from a light sensor to simultaneously generate both (a) first image data representing a visual appearance of the first substrate, and (b) first OMR data corresponding to respective locations of the user-made marks on the first substrate; transmitting from a first page buffer at least a portion of the first image data and/or at least a portion of the first OMR data; receiving a second substrate to be scanned; and during the transmitting from the first page buffer, simultaneously scanning the second substrate.

  • Publication number: 20050238260
Abstract: A scanner for scanning images and optical marks with optical mark recognition (OMR) and encryption is disclosed. A scanning system may include a scanning head configured to read documents comprising characters, marks, and images. The scanning system may include an encryption algorithm for encrypting the scanned data, a processor to use the encryption algorithm to encrypt the data scanned by the scanning head, and an output port to output the data encrypted by the processor. The scanner may encrypt the scanned data substantially immediately after at least some of the data scanned by the scanning head.

  • Publication number: 20050237580
Abstract: A scanner for scanning images and optical marks with optical mark recognition (OMR) is disclosed. A scanning system may include a scanning head configured to read documents comprising characters, marks, and images. The system may include firmware configured to switch between an image scanning mode and an optical mark recognition (OMR) mode, a processor to process data scanned from the scanning head in either the image scanning mode or the optical mark recognition mode, and at least one output port for the processed data.
