Subsequently, when a consumer attempts to use the card and before payment instructions are sent to the corresponding third-party payment service, the secure identifier or PIN is requested and verified. If properly verified, the payment instructions are forwarded for processing by the third-party payment service.

In a simple embodiment, data from a fuel pump is obtained, either directly or via a fuel pump controller, by a fuel station site controller and stored. The stored data includes a measure of a total amount of fuel dispensed from the fuel pump, such as may be measured by a fuel pump feedstock meter. At a time when the site controller reestablishes data communication with the fuel pump controller after a loss, the site controller receives a fuel pump data update. The updated data is then compared to the stored measure. When there is a mismatch, a possible fuel theft has occurred and an alarm process may be triggered.

When a consumer's mobile device is detected within a drive-thru queue or within a configurable distance of a Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal for drive-thru ordering, an interactive ordering interface is presented on the mobile device of the consumer. The consumer places his/her order via that interface and may optionally make payment for the order. The interface interacts with a POS agent of an establishment where the consumer is making the order to take the order and ensure fulfillment of that order.
