Publication number: 20250119724Abstract: System and methods for using a visitor subscriber service (VSS) to provide short messaging services (SMS) on an advanced network for inbound roamers are described. The VSS acts as proxy for registration services and uses profile information of a roaming UE to either route a mobile terminated SMS message for the UE to an IMS if the UE supports SMS over IMS, or, to a mobile call operator (MCO) using SMS over SGS if the UE does not support SMS over IMS. The VSS interfaces with a home location register (HLR) of a HPLMN of the UE to provide a visitor location register (VLR) address of the VSS. The VLR address is used by an SMSC of the HPLMN to route the SMS message to the VSS. The MCO interfaces with a mobility management entity (MME) to which the UE attaches during a registration operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2023Publication date: April 10, 2025Inventors: Nassereddine Sabeur, Joel Arends, Marc A. Patent number: 12177659Abstract: An improved telecommunications network that can reduce the network load on a rich communication services (RCS) server and/or local routers that implement 1-to-N and/or M-to-N services is described herein. In particular, the improved telecommunications network may include an improved RCS server that can route secure multicast messages instead of and/or in addition to unicast messages. For example, the improved RCS server can create a multicast group for a group of UEs in response to a request from a UE to create a group of UEs. Creation of the multicast group may include creating a shared multicast group key (SMGK) for the multicast group and/or selecting a security algorithm for the multicast group. The improved RCS server can then distribute the SMGK and/or the selected security algorithm to the UEs such that the UEs can use the SMGK and/or the selected security algorithm to encrypt and/or decrypt messages.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2023Date of Patent: December 24, 2024Assignee: T-Mobile USA, Inc.Inventors: Rahul Amin, Joel Arends, Fadi Banna, Sheraz Dar, Zakir Hussain Syed

Publication number: 20240305675Abstract: When operational, a first node of an IMS network handles a registration of a UE on the IMS network, and receives a first request to reregister the UE with the IMS network. The first node creates a registration confirmation, and sends the registration confirmation to the UE. The second node of the IMS network receives a second request to reregister the UE with the IMS network and an indication that the first node has failed. The second node reduces IMS network congestion by avoiding reporting to the UE that the first node has failed, and by sending a message confirming reregistration. Upon receiving the message, the UE considers the registration valid for a predetermined period. Upon expiration of the predetermined period the UE sends a request to reregister. The message prevents the UE from congesting the IMS network.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2024Publication date: September 12, 2024Inventors: Nassereddine Sabeur, Saqib Badar, Joel Arends, Khurram Ahmad Mirza, Marc Proctor

Publication number: 20240114593Abstract: Techniques for determining contact information for an anonymous device on a telecommunications network are described herein. The telecommunications network can implement a server to determine data representing a callback number or other subscriber information for a user equipment (UE) associated with an anonymous status. The server can generate a request for the data based on identifying an anonymous status associated with a message from the UE. The server can request the data from a gateway mobile location center (GMLC) of the telecommunications network using a Representational State Transfer (REST) interface. The server can establish a communication session for the UE by sending the callback number and/or the subscriber information to an emergency service center (e.g., to enable a Public Service Answering Point to communicate with the UE if the communication session is lost).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2022Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Nassereddine Sabeur, Raymond Thomas Ball, Hichem Zait, Joel Arends

Publication number: 20230362619Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method to route a call from a roaming UE on a 5G network. The system receives from a UE belonging to a home network an indication of a call to a dialed number. The call requires information associated with the UE that is not available to the first wireless telecommunication network, because the UE is roaming on a visitor network. The indication of the call includes a unique identifier of the visitor network. The system can determine based on the unique identifier that the UE is roaming and send a request to the visitor network to provide instructions on how to route the received call. Upon obtaining the instructions on how to route the received call, the system routes the received call.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2023Publication date: November 9, 2023Inventors: Joel Arends, Nassereddine Sabeur, Raymond Ball

Publication number: 20230337041Abstract: Systems and methods for establishing a communication interface between control functions of a network core and a network data node associated with a user side packet core are discussed herein. The system can enable configuration information to be stored and dynamically updated by the network data node such that control nodes of the user side packet core requesting service from the network core are provided with up to date configuration information associated with active control functions. As control functions are activated and deactivated, the configuration information can be updated to reflect the current state of the network core and ensure that user device connects are routed to active control functions configured to provide user requested services.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2023Publication date: October 19, 2023Inventors: Nassereddine Sabeur, Joel Arends, Raymond Thomas Ball, Marc A.
