  • Patent number: 11981065
Abstract: A system for making polymeric fibers can comprise a main extruder configured to receive a polymer feedstock composition. The main extruder can have an outlet in fluid communication with a transfer line configured to receive a polymer melt from the main extruder and transfer the polymer melt in a flow direction that is towards a spinneret. A side arm extruder assembly can be positioned along the transfer line between the main extruder and the spinneret. The side arm extruder assembly can comprise an outlet positioned within the transfer line to inject a colored polymer melt concentrate into the transfer line.

  • Publication number: 20230202073
Abstract: An injection system for injecting additive into a polymer transfer line is disclosed. The injection system can include an extruder having an inlet and an outlet. The injection system can further include a melt pump subsystem comprising at least a first melt pump and a second melt pump. Each melt pump of the first and second melt pumps can have an inlet and an outlet. The inlet of each of the first and second melt pumps can be in fluid communication with the outlet of the extruder. The first and second melt pumps can be arranged in parallel so that flow from the outlet of the extruder divides between the first melt pump and the second melt pump. The outlet of each of the first and second melt pumps can be in fluid communication with a polymer transfer line.

  • Publication number: 20220220673
Abstract: An artificial turf filament has a cross-section that includes a body having a center juncture having a first width and a first and second wing member arranged in diverging orientation from the center juncture. Each wing member having a plurality of legs and a plurality of leg junctures positioned between respective legs of the plurality of legs. Moving from the center juncture to a distal end of each wing member, the minimal cross-sectional widths of the respective legs of the plurality of legs decrease and the maximal cross-sectional widths of the respective leg junctures of the plurality of leg junctures decrease.

  • Publication number: 20130344331
Abstract: This invention relates to a trilobal filament having at least one axially extending void, preferably one elongated void in each lobe, wherein each lobe has a partial elliptical-shaped profile having a major axis to minor axis of between about 1.04:1 to about 1.12:1, the cross-section has a modification ratio of 1.7 to 2.2, and the total cross-sectional area is 7 to 13 percent void. In a further aspect, this invention is a spinnerette for producing a filament comprising at least one bore group. Each bore group having three leg sections that are divergent from each other by 100° to 130° and each leg section includes two substantially parallel long leg capillary sections extending to an end section having a shoulder that extends inwardly toward a central axis of the long leg capillary sections.
