Patent number: 7833134Abstract: An exercise device upon which a user generally standing upright supported by foot platforms suspended from a frame via linkages in which the linkage lengths and pivot points correspond generally to the users upper and lower legs and hip and knee joints. This device not only allows natural free and spontaneous leg movement, able to simulate such exercises as walking, jogging, running, stepping, skiing or gliding, bicycling, climbing, reverse action and various isolated leg exercises, where the exercises can be performed at random generally without the need to reconfigure the device. This device preferably includes an isolation system capable of simulating natural forces throughout the entire range of movement in the horizontal and/or vertical plane. A safety/suspension system can be provided, alone or in combination with the isolation system, to resist sudden foot movement in the same direction, yet allows a slow and controlled tilting of the linkages whereby the user may simulate uphill and downhill travel.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2009Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Inventor: Joel D. Gordon

Patent number: 5722917Abstract: A displaceable seat exercise system (10) is provided wherein a user's legs and arms may be independently exercised. A seat assembly (40) is rotatively coupled to a base frame (12) by means of a parallelogram linkage assembly (90). The user displaces seat assembly (40) by extending his or her legs against a stationary foot support assembly (80), the foot support assembly being affixed to the base frame (12). Seat assembly (40) carries an arm member support assembly (50) which includes a pair of rotary resistance assemblies (120, 130) and respective rotatively coupled arm members (64, 62) for rotation by each of the user's arms, respectively. Seat assembly (40) may be collapsed into juxtaposition over base frame (40) and partially overlaid by the foot platform (88) to releasably secure exercise system (10) in a compact storage configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1996Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Assignee: Exerfun, Inc.Inventors: Brad Olschansky, Scott Olschansky, Joel D. Patent number: 5342264Abstract: An aerobic exercise device provides for a smooth, natural, orbital continuous motion of the user's feet. This device can be used for walking, running, jogging or stair-stepping exercises. Upper body workout devices can be provided with the aerobic exercise device such that a total body workout can be had. The device includes two parallel tracks with platforms. The platforms reciprocate along the tracks. A device is provided in each track for returning the platforms to the home position. As a user operates the device, he or she will push the platforms rearwardly. When the user's foot reaches the end of his or her stride, the user can then lift their foot in a natural motion. The device will return the platform to the home position. As the platform is returning to the home position, it will first travel in a forward direction and then switch to a rearward direction. This rearward movement will enable comfortable planting of the user's foot as it reengages the platform.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1993Date of Patent: August 30, 1994Inventor: Joel D. Gordon

Patent number: 4898381Abstract: A home gym system (100) is provided for performing weight lifting exercises with a load resistance (160, 164) coupled to a cable (132). The home gym system (100) includes a main frame (110) to which is pivotedly coupled at least one extension frame (120). A guide arm assembly (130) is slidingly coupled to frame extension (120) and vertically displaceable thereon. Vertical displacement of guide arm assembly (130) is made substantially effortless by a counter weight system (140) coupled to guide arm assembly (130) by a flexible member (141). Counter weight system (140) includes a floating pulley system (145) to compensate for changes in cable path length which result from the vertical displacement of guide arm assembly (130). Additionally, guide arm assembly (130) includes a system for increasing the load resistance by varying the mechanical advantage of the cable system.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1988Date of Patent: February 6, 1990Inventor: Joel D.
