  • Patent number: 8929948
Abstract: A wireless process communication adapter is provided. The adapter includes a housing having a plurality of openings. An end cap is coupled to a first opening of the plurality of openings. A field device coupling is disposed at the second of the plurality of openings. The housing, end cap and field device coupling define a chamber therein. At least one circuit board is disposed within the chamber, the circuit board has wireless communication circuitry disposed thereon and is coupleable to a field device through the field device coupling. In one aspect, substantially all remaining volume in the chamber is filled with a solid material. In another aspect, an explosion-proof barrier is provided in the field device coupling. Combinations of the aspects are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8694060
Abstract: A process device wireless adapter includes a wireless communications module, a metallic housing, and an antenna. The wireless communications module is configured to communicatively couple to a process device and to a wireless receiver. The metallic housing surrounds the wireless communication module and has a first end and a second end. The first end is configured to attach to the process device. In one embodiment, a metallic shield contacts the housing second end such that the metallic shield and the housing form a substantially continuous conductive surface. The antenna is communicatively coupled to the wireless communication module and separated from the wireless communication module by the metallic shield. Preferably, the wireless communications module illustratively includes a printed circuit board that has a length that is greater than its width.

  • Patent number: 7830314
Abstract: A field device including a housing having an outer surface and an inner surface surrounding a main cavity. The housing further includes an aperture extending from the main cavity to the outer surface. An electrical component is located within the main cavity of the housing. An antenna is in electrical communication with the electrical component. The field device further includes a rotatable mount attached to the housing. The mount has a channel extending from a first end to a second end of the mount. A cable is electrically connected to the electrical component and the antenna and the cable extends through at least a portion of the channel.
