  • Patent number: 6911232
Abstract: A liquid dispensing module and nozzle or die tip for discharging at least one liquid filament. The nozzle includes a strand guide for guiding a substrate past the nozzle and a frustoconical protrusion disposed on a surface of the nozzle adjacent the notch. A liquid discharge passage extends along an axis through the frustoconical protrusion and forms an acute angle with a machine direction corresponding to movement of the strand past the nozzle. Four air discharge passages are positioned at the base of the frustoconical protrusion. Each of the air discharge passages is angled in a compound manner generally toward the liquid discharge passage and offset from the axis of the liquid discharge passage to create the controlled pattern of liquid material on the strand.

  • Publication number: 20040256496
Abstract: A dispensing system comprising first and second valve modules each having an output for delivering a liquid under pressure, a nozzle assembly coupled to the first and second valve modules, the nozzle assembly having at least two separated, at least partially coextensive outputs respectively communicating independently with the outputs of the first and second valve modules. A nozzle assembly adapted to be coupled to first and second valve modules each having an output for delivering a liquid under pressure, the nozzle assembly having two liquid inputs and at least two separated, at least partially coextensive outputs respectively communicating independently with the two liquid inputs, and the two liquid inputs adapted to be coupled in communication with the outputs of the first and second valve modules.

  • Publication number: 20040164180
Abstract: A liquid dispensing module and nozzle or die tip for dispensing at least one liquid filament from a liquid discharge passage onto at least one moving strand. A strand guide is used for guiding each strand past the nozzle and/or locating each strand relative to the discharged liquid filament. The nozzle includes a process air outlet that supplies a stream of process air impinging each moving strand before the liquid filament is dispensed onto the strand.

  • Publication number: 20040144494
Abstract: A liquid dispensing module and nozzle or die tip for discharging at least one liquid filament. The nozzle includes a strand guide for guiding a substrate past the nozzle. The strand guide is a concave or rounded notch in the nozzle which receives and aligns a strand to allow accurate placement of a liquid such as adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6422428
Abstract: A modular applicator for dispensing liquid including a plurality of manifold segments, a plurality of removable pumps, and a drive motor coupled to each pump. The manifold segments are coupled in side-by-side relation and each includes a liquid supply passage and a liquid discharge passage. Each pump includes an inlet communicating with the liquid supply passage, an outlet communicating with the liquid discharge passage and a pumping mechanism for pumping the liquid from the inlet to the outlet. The drive motor is coupled to each pump to simultaneously operate each pumping mechanism and dispense the liquid from a plurality of dispensing modules coupled with each manifold segment. The dispensing modules are recirculating modules which direct the liquid back into the corresponding manifold segment when they are in closed positions.

  • Patent number: 6422848
Abstract: A meltblowing die includes a die tip having an outwardly projecting triangular nosepiece defining an apex therealong, a row of hot melt holes spaced along the apex, and air holes positioned in relation to the hot melt holes to cause at least some of the filaments discharging therefrom to flare outwardly so that the hot melt filaments deposited on an underlying moving substrate has a lateral dimiension greater than the length of the row of hot melt holes. The die may be operated to cause the filaments to be deposited on the substrate in a side-by-side sinusoidal, stitch-like pattern.

  • Patent number: 6378784
Abstract: A die tip for use in meltblowing liquid material onto a moving substrate having a layer of entrained air moving in a common direction therewith. The die tip includes a base member having a plurality of liquid dispensing outlets for dispensing liquid material toward the substrate and a plurality of air discharge outlets for discharging air toward the liquid material dispensed from the liquid dispensing outlets. The base member includes at least one air deflecting member extending outwardly from the base member and toward the substrate. The air deflecting member is operable to deflect the moving entrained air in a direction away from the air discharge outlets of the meltblowing die tip. The air deflecting member substantially reduces the build up of dust and other debris carried in the entrained air around the air discharge outlets to maintain consistent and reliable operation of the meltblowing die tip.
