  • Patent number: 10165405
Abstract: In one embodiment, a base station for a cellular wireless communication system has one or more antennas that transmit and receive communications signals to and from wireless units within a coverage area of the base station, where the communications signals include text messages. A base station controller processes the communications signals. One or more solar arrays convert light into power and one or more batteries store power for operating the base station independent of a power grid. The base station has at least some components that are hardened against electromagnetic pulse (EMP) events.

  • Publication number: 20150289421
Abstract: An apparatus includes a first electrically conductive mesh material having a transparent material that is configured for venting heat from a computing device. The first electrically conductive mesh material is configured to be flexible for folding to enclose the computing device. The first electrically conductive mesh material is configured for mitigating electro-magnetic pulse damage to the enclosed computing device. A second electrically conductive mesh material has a transparent material that is configured for venting heat from the computing device. The second electrically conductive mesh material is configured to be flexible for folding to enclose the first electrically conductive mesh material. The second electrically conductive mesh material is configured for mitigating electro-magnetic pulse damage to the enclosed computing device.

  • Patent number: 9113550
Abstract: An apparatus comprises an electrically conductive sheet material having a transparency. The sheet material being flexible to fold to form a pouch configured to enclose a portable computing device. The sheet material is configured to seal side edges of the pouch with edges of the sheet being in electrical engagement. A sealing member is configured to close an opening of the pouch to enclose the portable computing device within the pouch. The closure member is further configured to create an electrical engagement across the opening of the pouch in which the closed pouch structure mitigates electro-magnetic pulse damage and radio waves in general to the enclosed portable computing device, enables viewing of displays of the enclosed portable computing device, and enables manipulation of controls of the enclosed portable computing device while allowing access through wireless to the outside world.

  • Publication number: 20140300467
Abstract: A system comprises a master unit being configured to be operable to at least transmit and receive signals, determine signal levels of received signals, and activate an alarm for received signal levels below a predetermined level. The master unit at least comprises a processing unit, a port for communicating with computing devices, and a speaker unit for producing an audible alarm. At least two slave units are configured to be operable to at least transmit and receive signals, determine signal levels of received signals, and activate an alarm for received signal levels below a predetermined level and for signal content indicating an alarm. Each of the slave units comprises a processing, a port for communicating with computing devices, and a speaker unit for producing an audible alarm. The master unit communicates separately with each of the slave units.
