Abstract: A rotational atherectomy device including a drive shaft rotatably extending through an outer tubular member to rotate a cutting member positioned at a distal end thereof. The rotational atherectomy device further includes an elongate penetrator extendable distal of the cutting member a predetermined maximum distance and configured to stabilize the cutting member as the cutting member engages an occlusion to control the trajectory and advancement of the cutting member through the occlusion.

Abstract: Medical devices and methods for using medical devices are disclosed. A rotational atherectomy device may include an elongate shaft having a proximal end region, a distal end region and a lumen extending therein. The medical device may also include a cutting member positioned adjacent the distal end region of the elongate shaft. The cutting member may include a plurality of helical grooves defined in an outer surface of the cutting member. At least some of the helical grooves may extend at least one full helical rotation about the cutting member. In some cases, at least some of the helical grooves may include a first helical groove extending in a first direction and a second helical groove extending in a second direction that is different from the first direction.

Abstract: A method of managing catheter data for a catheter-based imaging system includes coupling a catheter to a control module. The catheter includes a memory structure that includes catheter management data. The control module includes a processor. The catheter management data is accessed from the memory structure using the processor. Patient tissue is imaged using control module settings that are selected based, at least in part, on the accessed catheter management data. At least one image is displayed based, at least in part, on the imaged patient tissue.
