  • Patent number: 6786629
Abstract: A method for continuously mixing a borehole fluid such as cement includes using a measurement of the solid fraction of a cement slurry as it is being mixed to determine the ratio of the solid and liquid components to be added to the slurry. A system for mixing the slurry includes a liquid material (water) supply including a flow meter; a solid material (cement) supply; a mixer which receives the liquid and solid materials and includes an output for delivering materials from the mixer to a delivery system; a device for measuring the amount of material in the mixer; and a flow meter in the output; wherein measurements from the flow meters and the device for measuring the amount of material in the mixer are provided to a control system which provides control signals to automatically control the amount of solid and/or liquid material added to the mixer.

  • Patent number: 6533036
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a tool for treating at least one wall in a critical zone of a borehole, in particular a borehole for development of a hydrocarbon, water, gas or analogous field, the method consisting in reinforcing the wall of the critical zone by a coating obtained from a base fluid which is pumped from the surface to a tool (1) to be projected against the wall of the critical zone where it forms the coating once it has set, the method being characterized in that it consists in storing at least one additive or activator in liquid form in a reservoir (R) of the tool (1), and in projecting the additive simultaneously with the base fluid against the wall of the critical zone via at least one injector (I) in order to activate setting of the base fluid.

  • Patent number: 6390196
Abstract: The invention provides a method of isolating an open hole fitted with a slotted liner, the method consisting in pumping a cement or a resin to the level of the slotted liner by means of injection apparatus provided with lips for scrapping the slotted liner downstream from the injection point so that the cement or resin fills the entire borehole upstream from the injection apparatus and also fills the space behind the slotted liner while the apparatus is being raised towards the surface. The invention also provides injection apparatus particularly adapted to implement the method, which apparatus can advantageously be displaced by means of coiled tubing.

  • Patent number: 5950725
Abstract: A hydraulic wiper plug launcher (8) includes a coupler (22) releasably mounted on the upper end of a well casing (9). The outer coupler body (10) has an inner shoulder (49) and an open ended plug container (12) has a stack of wiper plugs (16) compressed therein. The upper end portion of container (12) forms a fluid chamber (S2) above the uppermost wiper plug (16). A precise predetermined volume of fluid is supplied to fluid chamber (S2) for expelling the plugs (16) in a controlled sequence. The length of the fluid chamber (S2) in container (12) increases an amount equal to the length of the wiper plug (16) pushed or expelled from the open lower end of the container (12).
