  • Patent number: 7350336
Abstract: A threshold system includes modular plastic substrate sections of predetermined lengths that are attachable together end-to-end in a number of configurations to form substrates of various total lengths. A threshold assembly of a desired length is assembled by attaching selected substrate sections together to form a support substrate having a length corresponding to the sums of the lengths of the substrate sections, mounting an extruded aluminum sill to the support substrate, and mounting a threshold cap in the upwardly open channel formed by the attached substrate sections and the sill. A nosing strip may be secured along the inside of the finished threshold to cover the intersections between joined substrate sections and to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance from the inside of a building in which the threshold is installed.

  • Patent number: 6789358
Abstract: A threshold assembly includes a unitary compression molded plastic composite body formed to define an upwardly open threshold cap channel, jamb boots at its ends, and a support substrate outboard of the channel. An extruded aluminum sill plate is snapped into place on the plastic body and a vertically adjustable threshold cap is disposed in the upwardly open channel. Drain channels may be formed in the plastic body to direct water outwardly and away from the threshold assembly. The plastic body forms a stable foundation that will not rot, swell, or rack in the presence of moisture and fabrication of the assembly is greatly simplified as compared to traditional threshold assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6763639
Abstract: An entryway system includes an elongated threshold assembly and a pair of plastic jamb boots attached to the ends of the threshold assembly. The jamb boots have flat level upper faces and a pair of jambs having square-cut bottoms are secured to the jamb boots and extend upwardly from the threshold assembly. A head jamb completes a door frame. The jamb boots may be formed with integral drains that receive water from within the threshold cap channel of the threshold assembly and direct it away from the entryway. The plastic jamb boots prevent rotting and eliminate the need to mill the bottoms of jambs with haunches configured to fit the threshold assembly. Plastic mull post boots also are provided for supporting square-cut bottom mull posts in sidelight or double door entryways.

  • Publication number: 20020194787
Abstract: A threshold assembly (111) has a frame (12) that defines an upwardly open channel (16) in which a threshold cap (18) is vertically adjustably disposed. A gap (21) is formed between the threshold cap and the outside wall of the channel and a flexible polymer layer (22), such as a strip of double sided 100 percent closed cell foam tape, is disposed in the gap. The polymer layer seals the gap against water leakage and deforms up to 300 percent of its dimension in any direction to accommodate vertical adjustment of the threshold cap and other relative movement between the cap and the outside wall of the channel while maintaining a high integrity seal.

  • Publication number: 20020174610
Abstract: An improved sidelight and transom entryway system able to meet stringent building codes in hurricane prone coastal regions and other regions is provided. The entryway system comprises a frame formed of a sill, a pair of vertical jambs, a head jamb, a transom mull below the head jamb, and at least one mull post extending upwardly from the sill to a top end attached to the transom mull. The mull post and transom mull define a door opening, at least one sidelight panel opening, and a transom opening. The mull post and transom mull have cores formed of a multiple ply truss that extends continuously from a position adjacent the outside edges to a position adjacent the inside edges of the mullions. The trusses may be formed of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) or with plies of wooden material and at least one ply of non-wooden material such as plastic, composites, fiberglass, or metal.

  • Publication number: 20020069589
Abstract: An entryway system includes an elongated threshold assembly and a pair of plastic jamb boots attached to the ends of the threshold assembly. The jamb boots have flat level upper surfaces and a pair of jambs having square-cut bottoms are secured to the jamb boots and extend upwardly from the threshold assembly. A head jamb completes a door frame. The jamb boots are formed with integral drains that receive water from within the threshold cap channel of the threshold assembly and direct it away from the entryway. The plastic jamb boots prevent rotting and eliminate the need to mill the bottoms of jambs with haunches configured to fit the threshold assembly. Stops are provided in one embodiment at the bottoms of the weather strip kurfs to position the bottom ends of weather strips above the sill of the threshold to prevent weather strip wicking and consequent leakage in wind-blown rains.

  • Patent number: 5823550
Abstract: A case for transporting exhibits and other materials includes a container having a bottom, two opposing sides, two opposing ends, and an open top. A wheel assembly is mounted at a first end of the container adjacent the bottom. First and second handles are disposed at respective ends of the container adjacent the open top. The first and second handles allow the container to be carried by two persons lifting on the first and second handles. A third handle is disposed at the end of the container opposite the wheel assembly and adjacent the bottom of the container. The third handle allows the container to be moved by lifting on the third handle and rolling the container on the wheel assembly. Integrally molded hand holds are also formed in the sides of the container adjacent the open top. To facilitate stacking of the containers, a pair of stacking feet project outwardly from one side of the container.
