  • Publication number: 20060259067
Abstract: An intravascular filter can capture and eliminate emboli. In particular, an intravascular filter may include a plurality of filter legs extending from an apical head. The filter legs may be configured to capture emboli. A drug reservoir that includes or contains a therapeutic drug can be disposed near the apical head. The therapeutic drug, such as a thrombolytic or anti-coagulatory drug, may be eluted in response to a captured emboli.

  • Publication number: 20060142796
Abstract: Improved methods and apparatus for capturing emboli and subsequently removing or immobilizing the captured emboli are described. Emboli can be captured within a blood vessel and can be withdrawn to a position exterior to the blood vessel. Some filters can remain within a blood vessel yet direct emboli to a position exterior to the blood vessel.

  • Publication number: 20060015137
Abstract: Retrievable intravascular filters for insertion within a blood vessel are disclosed. A retrievable intravascular filter in accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention includes an apical head operatively coupled to a number of elongated filter legs that can be used to collect blood clots contained within a blood vessel. A bendable anchoring member coupled to or formed integrally with one or more of the elongated filter legs can be used to temporarily or permanently secure the intravascular filter to the wall of the blood vessel.

  • Publication number: 20050027314
Abstract: Blood clot filters having self-centering capabilities when placed in a blood vessel are disclosed. A blood clot device in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a number filter legs formed at least in part of a shape-memory material configured to transform from a centering configuration to a filtering when deployed in the body. An attachment section on the distal section of each filter leg is configured to pierce and secure the filter to the vessel wall at a first location. A bend region may be heat set into the shape-memory material to provide a second contact location along the vessel wall to aid in centering the filter within the vessel. The bend region can be formed by heating the shape-memory material above its final austenite temperature (Af), and then shaping the filter leg to form a pad that abuts the vessel wall during deployment.
