Patent number: 9022049Abstract: An improved umbrella top notch and runner are provided for an umbrella including a shaft, plural ribs, and plural stretchers, in addition to the top notch and the runner. The top notch, structurally the same as the runner, includes a main body and plural building blocks. Each building block has a threaded hole through which a screw rod can pass to fasten the building block to the periphery of the main body. Each building block has a projecting pin on one lateral side and a recess on the opposite lateral side. When the building blocks are fastened to the periphery of the main body, the front end of the projecting pin on one lateral side of each building block is fittingly received in the recess of the adjacent building block. Patent number: 9016296Abstract: An umbrella structure includes a shaft, a top notch fixed at the top end of the shaft, a runner mounted around and slidable along the shaft, plural ribs, plural stretchers, a canopy, and plural torsion springs. Each rib has an upper end pivotally connected to the top notch. Each stretcher has an upper end pivotally connected to an intermediate portion of one of the ribs and a lower end pivotally connected to the runner. The canopy can be opened or closed by sliding the runner upward or downward along the shaft. One torsion spring is provided where each rib is pivotally connected to the corresponding stretcher. When the runner is slid downward to close the canopy, each torsion spring is compressed and stores energy. When the runner is slid upward to open the canopy, each torsion spring releases the stored energy to reduce the effort required for opening the canopy.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2014Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Inventor: Joen-Shen Ma

Patent number: 8424547Abstract: A safety buckle of umbrella is mounted in receiving compartments formed in a runner. The safety buckle is generally a U-shaped having two limbs each forming a hook latch. Two pivot pins are respectively mounted to opposite side surfaces of the buckle and torsion springs are respectively fit to the pivot pins to provide the hook latches with spring biasing force for engagement. The pivot pins of the safety buckle are respectively received in pivot holes defined in inside surfaces of the receiving compartments. To open the umbrella, the runner is moved upward along a center post. A user presses down the safety buckle when the runner gets close to positioning pins formed on the center post to allow the hook latches to respectively engage the positioning pins thereby securely fixing the runner in position on the center post.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2012Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Inventors: Joen-Shen Ma, Yung Cheng Ma

Patent number: 8365748Abstract: A cushioning device for umbrella includes a first gear, a plate spring, a bolt, and a second gear collectively arranged in a hollow chamber defined between a side cover and a casing. The umbrella has a central post to which an axially-extending toothed rack is mounted. The side cover and the casing of the cushioning device are mounted to the runner of the umbrella to have the second gear mating the rack of the central post. The first gear and the second gear of the cushioning device mate each other. The first gear has a surface to which the plate spring and the bolt are mounted. Rotating the bolt to different extents of tightness makes the plate spring apply different depression forces to the first gear, which changes the frictional resistance between the first gear and the casing.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2011Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Inventor: Joen-Shen Ma

Patent number: 8302542Abstract: A furniture frame includes an assembly of a front frame, a pair of side racks, and a rear board. The front frame includes a closed frame structure made of a tubular member and forms four fitting lugs at a rear side portion thereof in a symmetric manner. The two side racks are made of tubular members to each assume a lying U-shaped structure and each lying-U-shape has an open side at which free ends of limbs of the U-shape each form a bent section. The two side racks are of a symmetric arrangement and structure so that the bent sections are respectively fit into the fitting lugs to demonstrate an expanding resiliency between the connection sections of the two side racks. The rear board is a flat plate having opposite edges that are bent in an arc form to construct pawls thereon, and the pawls on the opposite edges of the rear board are sized and positioned to respectively receive and thus engage the connection sections of the side racks.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2010Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Inventor: Joen-Shen Ma
