  • Patent number: 11886921
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for implementing automated serverless runtime container allocation is provided. The method includes defining a number of runtime containers and associated characteristics required for each worker node of a plurality of worker nodes for execution of a specified workload. The specified workload is dispatched to the plurality of worker nodes and a specified portion of the specified workload is assigned to each worker node. An application executing a universal runtime container that includes potential application runtimes and associated supported software versions within a layered modifiable format is generated and unused layers are removed from the universal runtime container. The specified workload is executed via the universal runtime container and a set of available universal runtime containers is refilled on an associated work node.

  • Patent number: 9164950
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for displaying components assigned to events produced by resources, includes: registering a new resource by generating a label to which is associated a system specific device identifier used by the new resource within a computing environment; storing in a mapping table the generated label identifying the registered new resource together with an associated system specific device identifier; and updating the mapping table by associating to the label any other system specific device identifier used by the new resource within the computing environment; receiving events produced by resources when being executed within the computing environment, each event being associated with a list of labels for the resources relevant for the generation of the event; and maintaining a tag cloud including different tags, the different tags including labels for the resources associated with the received events to be displayed as components.

  • Publication number: 20100082563
Abstract: A method of applying a tag cloud to systems management resources to visualize components which are related to an event includes automatically creating initial tags for information technology (IT) resources in an enterprise system or data center based on usage or access information, specifying, in a user interface, a specific resource in the tag cloud to search, using the resource to provide a reverse search of initiators of the resource to obtain business impact of the resource, and automatically presenting search results of the initiators in a new tag cloud in a ranking order representing an amount of the usage or access information.

  • Patent number: 7657583
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for calculating a recovery time (tr) of an application system in a computer system. The mechanisms tune the computer system dynamically. A recovery time (tr) is calculated and controlled within flexible predefined time slices and compared to a predefined time period (t0). A trigger is set in the case in which the calculated recovery time (tr) exceeds the predefined time period (t0). The mechanisms determine a type of redolog used during a backup process and a corresponding recovery speed value associated with the type of redolog. The recovery time is calculated based on the type of redolog used during the backup process and the corresponding recovery speed value associated with the type of redolog.

  • Publication number: 20050138090
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a backup of data stored in multiple source medium are disclosed. A first backup file is initially generated on a backup medium. Then, data blocks of a first and second source files are written onto the first backup file. In response to the receipt of a last data block from one of the source files, the last data block is written to the first backup file and the first backup file is closed such that the first backup file contains all the data from one of the source files and a subset of data from the other source file. Subsequently, a second backup file is generated on the backup medium. After all the remaining data from the other source file have been written to the second backup file, the second backup file is closed such that the second backup file contains the remaining data from the other source file.

  • Patent number: 6898589
Abstract: For the transfer of bulk data between a client computer system and at least one server computer system, throughput-relevant information is gathered from system components involved in the transfer. The information gathered is passed to a knowledge base that holds algorithms and data on relations and combinations of throughput-relevant information. By means of the knowledge base a set of performance parameters is generated that are effective to achieve a maximum data throughput. The determined set of performance parameters is used for a setup and configuration of a data transfer controller that controls the system complex for the transfer a maximum of data within a minimum amount of time and to reduce the expenditure for the system setup and configuration before the transfer is started. The data transfer may be part of backup and restore operations of bulk data.
